On 16 December 2025, at the athletics competition of the SEA Games 2025 hosted by Thailand, the final day of competition featured nine gold medals at Suphachalasai Stadium. One key highlight was the men's 4x400 meter relay.
The Thai athletics team triumphed, winning gold in the men's 4x400 meter relay after Joshua Robert Atkinson, a Thai-Australian dual heritage athlete, accelerated during the final leg to overtake Vietnam in the last 100 meters straight, finishing first.
This victory gave Thailand the gold medal with a time of 3 minutes 3.07 seconds, breaking the 30-year-old SEA Games record set when Chiang Mai hosted in 1995 (Thailand's previous record was 3 minutes 5.47 seconds), marking a magnificent achievement.
Additionally, Joshua Robert Atkinson earned his second gold medal at the 2025 SEA Games, following his win in the 400 meters event, after also winning two silver medals in the men's 800 meters and the mixed 4x400 meter relay.
