Unstoppable Thip-Ying Wins Fourth Consecutive Womens Doubles Table Tennis Gold at 2025 SEA Games

Unstoppable "Thip-Ying" captures the women's doubles table tennis championship for the fourth consecutive time, winning gold at the 2025 SEA Games. The duo remains dominant in the region.

On 17 December 2025, table tennis events at the 33rd SEA Games took place at Westgate Hall, 4th floor, Central Westgate Shopping Mall, Bang Yai, Bangkok, featuring three gold medals contested in mixed doubles, women's doubles, and men's doubles.

The Thai athletes advanced to the women's doubles final, with the notable achievement that both finalist pairs were Thai teams, guaranteeing Thailand the gold medal in this category.

"Thip" Orawan Paranang and "Ying" Suthasinee Sewatbutr, Thailand's number one pair and ranked 14th in the world, are three-time defending SEA Games women's doubles champions. They defeated Malaysia’s Karen Lin and Tee Ai Sin 3-2 in the semifinals, then faced challengers "Bua" Jinnipa Sewatbutr and "Tangmo" Thamlawan Ketkhuean, Thai teammates who upset Singapore’s top-ranked pair, Xu Lin Qian and Loy Ming Ying, 3-1.

Although the pressure was less intense than facing foreign opponents, both pairs competed fully without holding back, especially Jinnipa and Thamlawan, eager to win gold. Nevertheless, the world-ranked 14th pair, Orawan and Suthasinee, proved stronger, defeating their teammates 3-0 (11-2, 11-9, 11-7).

Orawan and Suthasinee combined their strengths to claim the women's doubles gold at the SEA Games for the fourth straight time, having first won in 2019 in the Philippines. This marked Thailand's second table tennis gold at this SEA Games, following the women's team gold won three days earlier. Jinnipa and Thamlawan earned the silver medal as consolation.

In men's doubles, "Ball" Pakpoom Sanguansin and "Norton" Thitaphat Preechayan reached the semifinals but lost 0-3 to Malaysia’s Javen Chung and Wong Ki Chen, securing the bronze medal for the Thai pair.

In mixed doubles, "Ped" Sarayout Tancharoen and "Cartoon" Wannawisak Uewiriyayothin were eliminated in the semifinals after a 1-3 loss to Malaysia’s Wong Ki Chen and Tee Ai Sin, earning bronze for Thailand.

The Thai table tennis team still has women's and men's singles events scheduled over the next two days, with finals set for Friday, 19 December 2025, at 18:00.

After the match, "Thip" Orawan said the final was less stressful than the semifinals since they faced their own teammates. "We were happy and excited to meet each other in the final. Winning again made us even happier. Before the match, we had some fun conversations, but during play, we gave our full effort."

"It's a great pride to win four consecutive championships. We don’t know if anyone else has achieved this. We just aimed to do our best and challenge ourselves, which makes us very happy."

Meanwhile, "Ying" Suthasinee said she felt no pressure as facing fellow Thai players guaranteed a gold medal for Thailand. "We fought hard. Singles competition coming up will be different because we have to rely on ourselves without teammates to support us. We must focus more and study opponents carefully. We ask Thai fans to cheer us on as it’s a very important competition."

Silver medalists "Bua" Jinnipa and "Tangmo" Thamlawan said together, "Reaching the gold medal match was beyond our expectations. We felt pressure from the quarterfinals onward but are happy to have won a medal."
