Thailand's snooker campaign ended with six gold medals, securing the top spot at the 2025 SEA Games. "Big Hong" expressed regret that Malaysia will not include women's snooker next time.
At the 33rd SEA Games women's 15-red snooker singles final held at Thunderdome, Muang Thong Thani, the best-of-five frames match featured "Mink Saraburi" Natcharat Wongharuthai, the world number one and women's 15-red team gold medalist, facing "Mind Sakol" Panchaya Channoi, the U-21 world champion and also a women's 15-red team gold medalist. Somsaak Thepsuthin, former Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman Advisor of the Billiards Sports Association of Thailand, presided over the medal ceremony, joined by "Big Hong" Sunthorn Jarumon, President of the Billiards Sports Association of Thailand.
In the first frame, both players were cautious, but Mind led 6-1. Mink then made a 26-point break to overturn the score to 27-6, continuing with more precise shots to win 75-7 and take a 1-0 lead. In the second frame, Mink led 30-0, but Mind came back with a break to lead 64-30 and eventually won 91-39, leveling the match 1-1.
In the third frame, Mink won 58-49 to lead 2-1. In the fourth frame, Mink led 34-0, but Mind caught up, finishing at a tied 58-58, forcing a deciding shootout. Mind's white ball shot change gave Mink the advantage to win 65-58. Thus, Mink Saraburi Natcharat Wongharuthai triumphed 3-1 with scores of 75-7, 39-91, 58-49, and 65-58, securing her second SEA Games gold medal.
Meanwhile, in the men's 15-red singles, best-of-seven frames, "Korn Nakornpathom" Phasakorn Suwanwat faced "Nuk Songkhla" Krisanat Lertsatyatorn. Krisanat led the first two frames, but Phasakorn rallied to win four straight frames, clinching the match 4-2 with scores of 48-61, 50-55, 100-34, 63-1, 73-62, and 70-17. This marked Phasakorn Suwanwat’s first SEA Games 15-red snooker gold. Somsaak Thepsuthin congratulated the Billiards Sports Association of Thailand for achieving a record six gold medals, the highest ever at the SEA Games.
After the match, Natcharat Wongharuthai said her performance was good but slightly below her usual standard. She hopes to maintain her world number one ranking for as long as possible and aims to win more gold medals for Thailand if given the chance to represent the country again. Professionally, she plans to improve her skills to compete against male players. Phasakorn Suwanwat said he was fully committed this year, driven by a strong desire, having participated in three SEA Games without winning gold until now. This time, he broke through by winning two gold medals.
"Big Hong" Sunthorn Jarumon stated that the next SEA Games in Malaysia will not feature women's snooker because Thailand is currently the number one in ASEAN with no real competition, which he found regrettable. He noted that this year's achievement of six gold medals was historic. Regarding the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, he said the team composition remains to be decided, with some SEA Games athletes possibly participating.
