
SEA Games 2025 football results: "Thailand" led "Vietnam" before losing in extra time, missing out on their 17th championship.
On 18 Dec 2025 GMT+7, the 2025 SEA Games men's football final featured the "War Elephants," Thailand's national team with 16 titles, facing Vietnam's national team, three-time champions, at Rajamangala Stadium.
In the first half, at the 20th minute, Thailand took a 1-0 lead over Vietnam from a free kick approximately 30 yards out, with Yosakorn Burapha curling a right-footed shot into the net, marking his seventh goal in SEA Games 2025.
At the 29th minute, Thailand made their first substitution as Chanpatch Buapan was injured and unable to continue; Phichitchai Siakratok came on to replace him.
At the 31st minute, Thailand extended their lead to 2-0 when Khakhana Khamyok turned the ball before passing to Sek San Ratri, who cut inside and scored with his left foot.
In the second half, at the 49th minute, Thailand conceded a penalty, which Nguyen Dinh Bac successfully converted, reducing the deficit to 1-2 for Vietnam.
At the 60th minute, Vietnam equalized from a corner kick, with Pham Le Duc heading the ball in to make the score 2-2; the match ended with this score, leading to 30 minutes of extra time.
In the first half of extra time, at the 96th minute, Vietnam took the lead 3-2 after Thai defenders failed to clear the ball, which reached Nguyen Thanh Nam, who scored before the game ended with this result.
Thailand failed to break their eight-year title drought and win their 17th gold medal, while Vietnam reclaimed the SEA Games football championship for the 4th time, last winning as hosts in 2021.
