Kim Sang-sik, head coach of the Vietnam national team, spoke openly after overturning a deficit to beat Thailand and win the men's football gold at the 2025 SEA Games.
Kim Sang-sik expressed immense pride in his team after they defeated Thailand 3-2 in extra time to claim the men's football gold at the 2025 SEA Games, despite trailing by two goals earlier.
In the final match, Thailand took a 2-0 lead in the first half with goals from Yotsakorn Burapha and Seksan Ratri, but Vietnam scored three consecutive goals to snatch the championship.
Kim Sang-sik said, "First of all, I am very happy to win the SEA Games gold this time. Earlier this year, we won the ASEAN Cup, and now we have the SEA Games title. This success comes from the players' unwavering spirit—they never gave up even when two goals down. I am very proud of them."
"We were a bit too pressured at the start of the game, perhaps due to playing in front of a large crowd, which caused a loss of confidence. However, the players gradually adapted to the pressure, improved their performance, and ultimately secured the championship. I am truly proud of them."
"With this confidence, we are determined to achieve good results at the Asian Championship. The coaching staff and players will prepare thoroughly for the upcoming competition."
