
Vietnamese football fans poured onto the streets in lively celebrations after their team defeated Thailand to win the men's football gold medal at the SEA Games 2025.
On 19 Dec 2025 GMT+7, numerous fans of the "Golden Star" Vietnam national team took to the streets to celebrate enthusiastically after head coach Kim Sang-sik, a South Korean, led the team to a comeback victory over Thailand's "War Elephants" to claim the men's football gold medal at the SEA Games 2025. This is their first championship in four years since they last won in 2021 when they hosted the Games.
Looking back at the match, Thailand's "War Elephants" took an early 2-0 lead with goals from Yotsakorn Burapha in the 20th minute and Seksan Ratri in the 31st minute. However, Vietnam's "Golden Star" quickly responded with three goals: Nguyen Dinh Bach scored a penalty in the 49th minute, Pham Le Duc added another in the 60th minute, and Nguyen Tang Nan netted the winning goal in the 96th minute during the 30-minute extra time, ending the match 3-2.
After the match, many Vietnamese fans flooded the streets to celebrate the men's football gold medal at the SEA Games 2025, marking their fourth championship in history following titles in 1959, 2019, and 2021. Vietnam ranks fourth in the all-time SEA Games football champions list. Meanwhile, Thailand's "War Elephants" remain the top overall champions but have not won since 2017.
