The 33rd SEA Games have sparked excitement in Thai sports and generated an economic value of no less than 12 billion baht. Dr. Kongsak Yodmanee, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, noted this is the highest figure since Thailand has hosted sporting events, adding that nearly 400,000 spectators have attended various competitions so far.
Dr. Kongsak Yodmanee, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, revealed that hosting the 33rd SEA Games from 9 to 20 December 2025 has created an economic value exceeding 12 billion baht from preparations through to the current final phase of the competition. This includes direct revenues from the games and other related values. He believes the total economic impact may reach as high as 14 billion baht by the end of the event.
The Governor added that this figure represents a very high economic value, the greatest compared to previous sporting events. Partly, this is because the SEA Games include 50 sports disciplines, attracting more than 12,000 athletes and officials. In contrast, the 32nd SEA Games in 2023 in Cambodia had about 7,000 participants. Moreover, the 33rd SEA Games also draw followers, families, sports fans from each country, and many tourists who have traveled to cheer for their national athletes.
Dr. Kongsak further stated that Thai spectators have shown great enthusiasm and excitement. According to records from registered and walk-in supporters at venues, nearly 400,000 people had attended as of 18 December 2025. He expects the number of spectators to increase further by the end of the Games.
