Manas Boonjamnong, Olympic Gold Medal Hero, Arrested for Fraud, Regrets Missing 2025 SEA Games Boxing

Manas Boonjamnong, Olympic gold medal hero, was arrested on fraud charges and lamented missing the 2025 SEA Games boxing event.

On 19 Dec 2025 GMT+7, the Protection and Suppression police arrested Manas Boonjamnong, 45, former Olympic gold medal hero, who had fled to avoid sentencing in a lottery quota fraud case. The court sentenced him to 2 years and 9 months in prison. He was caught at his condominium room in Bang Krasor Subdistrict, Mueang Nonthaburi District, then sent to Bangkok Remand Prison. He said he missed out on cheering for boxing today.

This arrest stems from a 2021 complaint filed at Don Mueang Police Station by victims alleging that Manas, a former Olympic boxing hero, deceived them in selling government lottery quotas. Manas claimed he obtained quotas from a senior former Olympic boxing hero, convincing the victims to transfer 2 million baht. However, when the quotas were due, they were never delivered as agreed. When the victims asked for their money back, they were evaded, leading them to believe they had been scammed.

Reports say that while Manas was being taken to Don Mueang District Court, he half-jokingly said, "Today there is the 12-weight class SEA Games boxing championship. I shouldn’t have been arrested today—I missed cheering for the boxing."
