Top Thai Tennis Player Breaks 10-Year Drought with Second Gold at 2025 SEA Games

Top Thai tennis player breaks 10-year drought with second gold at 2025 SEA Games.

On 19 December 2025, the tennis competition at the 33rd SEA Games, or SEA Games 2025, took place at the National Tennis Development Center, Muang Thong Thani, Nonthaburi Province.

In the men's singles final, "Maxi" Maximus Prapol Jones, a Thai-Australian mixed heritage player ranked world No. 357 and seeded No. 1, competed in his first SEA Games against senior teammate "Boom" Kasidit Samret, world No. 419 and the No. 2 seed, who won bronze in men's singles at the 32nd SEA Games.

Both players fought hard throughout the match, which was decided in a third set. Maximus narrowly won 2-1 sets with scores of 6-1, 2-6, and 6-2, claiming the men's singles gold medal in his SEA Games debut.

Kasidit earned the silver medal, while the bronze medals were shared by Mitsuki Wei Kang Leong from Malaysia and Muhammad Rifqi Fitriadi from Indonesia.

This gold medal also marks Thailand's first tennis gold in 10 years, since the last men's singles gold was won at the 2015 SEA Games in Singapore by "Champion" Warit Sonbutnak.

Meanwhile, Maximus Prapol Jones secured his second SEA Games gold following his men's doubles victory on 18 December, ending an 8-year tennis gold medal drought for Thailand, partnering with Pratchaya Isaro.
