ThaiHealth reaffirmed its readiness to proceed according to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the SAT, BMA, Bangkok sports associations, and the Thai Health Promotion Foundation. This collaboration aims to promote and support campaigns against smoking and e-cigarette use in Thai sports, especially during the 33rd SEA Games and 13th ASEAN Para Games hosted by Thailand, with the firm rule that 'no e-cigarettes are allowed at any competition venue.'Tags: [ThaiHealth, MOU, anti-smoking, e-cigarette ban, SEA Games]
The sports sector, particularly all athletes, plays an important role as good role models by refraining from all forms of smoking, including e-cigarettes, for children and youth. Historically, tobacco companies used athletes as endorsers for cigarette advertising, but global laws have since banned such practices. ThaiHealth has therefore joined forces with partners to drive the campaign 'Thai Sports Against E-Cigarettes' concretely by making all sports venues smoke and e-cigarette free, displaying clear no-smoking and no e-cigarette signs, and broadcasting announcements throughout the competitions.Tags: [sports role models, anti-smoking campaign, tobacco advertising ban, ThaiHealth, e-cigarette-free venues]
Meanwhile, the Sports Authority of Thailand will monitor efforts to foster non-smoking and no e-cigarette values within its organizations and will refuse sponsorship or corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds from any tobacco industry, in compliance with Section 35 of the Tobacco Products Control Act, B.E. 2560 (2017). Together, they declare this important commitment that the 33rd SEA Games and 13th ASEAN Para Games will uphold 'Thai Sports Against E-Cigarettes.'Tags: [Sports Authority of Thailand, tobacco sponsorship ban, tobacco control law, SEA Games, ASEAN Para Games]
