Cycling Opens New Season with First Race at Thong Pha Phum for Thailand and International Mountain Bike Championships

Cycling opens the new season with the first race at Thong Pha Phum for the Thailand Championship and International Mountain Bike competitions.

Cycling kicks off the year 2026 with the international mountain bike race "2026 Thailand MTB Cup" on 14 Jan 2026, followed by the first round of the Thailand Road and Mountain Bike Championships competing for the Royal Cup from 16-18 Jan 2026 at Vajiralongkorn Dam in Thong Pha Phum district, Kanchanaburi province. The international mountain bike race has attracted many athletes from various countries. Meanwhile, the Cycling Association is preparing to consider outstanding road cyclists in the public category, under-23, youth, and masters classes, both male and female, for selection to represent Thailand at the 2026 Asian Road Cycling Championships in Saudi Arabia from 5-11 Feb 2026. “Sergeant Major Muek” urged cyclists to book accommodations quickly before all are fully booked.

Sergeant Major Decha Hemkrasri, Vice President of the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC), President of the ASEAN Cycling Federation (ACF), and President of the Cycling Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage, revealed that the Cycling Association of Thailand will start 2026 by hosting the international cross-country mountain bike race "2026 Thailand MTB Cup" at Vajiralongkorn Dam, Thong Pha Phum district, Kanchanaburi province on 14 January 2026. The event has been registered with the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) as a C1 level international competition included in the 2026 calendar to earn world ranking points.

General Decha said the event will be followed by the Thailand Road Cycling Championship competing for the King Bhumibol Royal Cup and the Thailand Mountain Bike Championship competing for the King’s Royal Cup for 2026, first round from 16-18 January 2026, also held at Vajiralongkorn Dam. The association is organizing the competition together with Thakhanun Municipality, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), Sino-Pacific Trading (Thailand) Co., Ltd., Airports of Thailand Public Co., Ltd. (AOT), the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth), IRPC Public Company Limited, Talad Thai Rangsit, and other sponsors.

General Decha added that the international cross-country mountain bike race "2026 Thailand MTB Cup," which offers UCI world ranking points, will impact athletes’ selection for the World Championships and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, USA. Many countries from Asia and Europe have shown great interest, with over 100 athletes expected to compete.

“Sergeant Major Muek” continued that the first round of the Thailand Road Cycling Championship for the Royal Cup in 2026 has been registered with UCI as a national championship level CN event, including both time trial and road race categories. Cyclists will have the opportunity to earn UCI world ranking points. Importantly, the Cycling Association will consider top performers in the public, under-23, and youth categories, male and female, for selection to represent Thailand at the 2026 Asian Road Cycling Championships in Saudi Arabia from 5-11 February 2026.

“At the same time, the Cycling Association will consider selecting masters cyclists aged 30 and above, male and female, with outstanding road cycling achievements to be part of the national masters team competing at the 2026 Asian Road Cycling Championships. Therefore, masters cyclists are encouraged to train well. Those who perform well in this event may have the chance to join the Thai national team to compete against top Asian cyclists. The competition is expected to attract a large number of participants. I urge all cyclists to book their accommodation in Thong Pha Phum district promptly before all places are fully booked,” General Decha said.
