“Two Wheels” opens the 2026 season with the international mountain bike competition “2026 Thailand MTB Cup,” followed by the national road and mountain bike championships competing for the Royal Cup.
On 25 December 2025, “Two Wheels” announced the start of the 2026 season with the international mountain bike event “2026 Thailand MTB Cup” on 14 Jan 2026, followed by the national road and mountain bike championships competing for the Royal Cup, the first round held 16-18 Jan 2026 at Vajiralongkorn Dam, Thong Pha Phum District, Kanchanaburi Province. The international mountain bike event has attracted many athletes from various countries. Meanwhile, the Cycling Association is preparing to select top-performing cyclists from the road categories—open, under-23, youth, and masters (men and women)—to represent Thailand at the 2026 Asian Road Cycling Championships in Saudi Arabia, 5-11 Feb 2026. “Sergeant Major Muek” reminded cyclists to book accommodations urgently before all are fully booked.
“Sergeant Major Muek,” General Decha Hemkrasri, Vice President of the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC), President of the ASEAN Cycling Federation (ACF), and President of the Cycling Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage, revealed that the Association will commence 2026 by hosting the international cross-country mountain bike race “2026 Thailand MTB Cup” at Vajiralongkorn Dam, Thong Pha Phum District, Kanchanaburi Province, on 14 January 2026. The event is registered with the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) as a C1-level international race, included in the 2026 calendar to earn world ranking points.
General Decha stated that following this will be the national road cycling championships competing for the “King Bhumibol” Royal Cup and the national mountain bike championships competing for the His Majesty the King’s Royal Cup for 2026, first round from 16-18 January 2026, also at Vajiralongkorn Dam. The Association is organizing the event in collaboration with Tha Khanun Municipality, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), Sino-Pacific Trading (Thailand) Co., Ltd., Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT), the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth), IRPC Public Company Limited, Talat Thai Rangsit, and other sponsors.
General Decha added that the international cross-country mountain bike competition “2026 Thailand MTB Cup,” which offers UCI world ranking points, will impact athlete selection for the World Championships and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, USA. Numerous countries from Asia and Europe have shown strong interest, with an expected participation of over 100 athletes.
“Sergeant Major Muek” further stated that the first round of the 2026 national road cycling championships competing for the Royal Cup is registered with the UCI as a CN-level event for both time trial and road race categories, allowing cyclists to earn UCI world ranking points. Importantly, the Cycling Association will select outstanding male and female cyclists from the open, under-23, and youth categories to join the Thai national team for the 2026 Asian Road Cycling Championships in Saudi Arabia, 5-11 February 2026.
“At the same time, the Cycling Association will also select master category cyclists aged 30 and above, both men and women, with excellent road cycling performances to represent the national masters team at the 2026 Asian Road Cycling Championships. Therefore, senior cyclists are encouraged to train well. Those who perform well in this event have a chance to join the Thai national team and compete against other Asian nations. Since a large number of cyclists are expected, we strongly advise athletes to book accommodations in Thong Pha Phum district promptly before all lodgings are fully booked,” General Decha said.
