The ASEAN Para Games are proceeding as planned, with the Thai para-athlete team training intensively, determined to become the top medal winners.
Thailand is ready to host the 13th ASEAN Para Games from 20-26 January 2026 in Nakhon Ratchasima province. Dr. Kongsak Yodmanee, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), updated that all preparations are on schedule, while the Thai para-athlete team across 19 sports is training rigorously with the goal of winning the most gold medals.
Dr. Kongsak Yodmanee, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, revealed the progress of preparations for hosting the 13th ASEAN Para Games from 20-26 January 2026 in Nakhon Ratchasima province. He said that readiness in all areas has been managed alongside hosting the recently concluded 33rd SEA Games continuously. Now, with 25 days remaining, everything is being prepared systematically and according to the planned schedule.
“Organizing sports for people with disabilities involves more details than regular sports because athlete classification to separate disabilities is required. This includes transportation systems, travel, accommodation, competition venues, training sites, technical equipment, personnel, and management. However, the involved parties have the expertise to carry out these tasks, so there is no cause for concern. I have only instructed close monitoring to avoid any mistakes.”
The SAT Governor added that the readiness of the Thai national para-athlete team across 19 sports is strong, with everyone focused on training to be prepared for the upcoming competition. The Sports Authority has fully incorporated sports science and nutrition to ensure athletes are at their best. The target for the Thai team in this ASEAN Para Games, jointly assessed with all disability sports associations, is to secure the top gold medal count. However, they must not underestimate competitors, especially Indonesia, which has shown remarkable development.
The 13th ASEAN Para Games, held from 20-26 January 2026 in Nakhon Ratchasima, will feature 19 sports: athletics, archery, badminton, 5-a-side football, boccia, international chess, cycling, 7-a-side football, goalball, judo, weightlifting, swimming, table tennis, sitting volleyball, shooting, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair fencing, wheelchair tennis, and bowling, competing for a total of 493 gold medals.
