12 Nations Compete in International Mountain Bike Cross-Country at Vajiralongkorn Dam, Thong Pha Phum

The international mountain bike cross-country race "2026 Thailand MTB Cup" at Vajiralongkorn Dam features cyclists from 12 countries across Asia, Canada, and America competing.

On 11 January 2026, the international mountain bike cross-country race "2026 Thailand MTB Cup" at Vajiralongkorn Dam, Thong Pha Phum District, Kanchanaburi Province, was lively with many cyclists from 12 countries across Asia, Canada, and America competing to earn world ranking points from the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). Sakon Aksornthanawat, Director of Vajiralongkorn Dam, confirmed that the road cycling and mountain bike championship for the royal trophy, first round of 2026, is ready for cyclists nationwide to showcase their skills.

General Decha Hemakasri, Vice President of the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC), President of the ASEAN Cycling Federation (ACF), and President of the Cycling Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage, revealed that the association, together with Tha Khanun Municipality and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), will hold the "2026 Thailand MTB Cup" on 14 January. The road cycling championship for the King’s Royal Trophy and the mountain bike championship for His Majesty the King’s Royal Trophy, first round of 2026, will be held from 16 to 18 January at Vajiralongkorn Dam, Thong Pha Phum District, Kanchanaburi Province.

General Decha said that on 7 January 2026, His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen officially opened the Saranchit Health Park in honor of the 6th cycle (72nd) birthday anniversary on 28 July 2024 at Vajiralongkorn Dam. This has inspired cyclists nationwide to follow in their footsteps, leading to strong interest and many registrations for the competition, which is considered an immeasurable royal grace.

General Decha added that the "2026 Thailand MTB Cup" mountain bike race features participants from 12 countries: Kazakhstan, Singapore, Japan, Canada, United States, Philippines, Israel, Malaysia, Taiwan, India, Indonesia, Thailand’s national team, and three Thai club teams. The high number of participating nations is because the association has registered this event with the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) as an international C1 level race on the 2026 calendar to earn world ranking points. The first round of the Thailand Road Cycling Championships for the royal trophy has also been registered with the UCI as a national championship CN level for both time trial and road race events, giving cyclists the chance to earn UCI world ranking points as well.

General Decha further explained that the Cycling Association will select outstanding performers from the road cycling events to represent Thailand at the 2026 Asian Road Cycling Championships in Saudi Arabia from 5 to 11 February. For the men's and women's elite categories, top performers from the 33rd SEA Games will be the main representatives. For youth and masters categories (aged 30 and over), both men and women, this is the final opportunity for athletes to prepare and compete to become national representatives, bringing honor to the country, their families, and themselves.

General Decha added that the Cycling Association, together with the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth) and Tha Khanun Municipality, will organize the "Bike for Life - TCA GREEN CYCLING" health ride on 16 January at 3:00 p.m. within Vajiralongkorn Dam. Participants will receive certificates, health ride T-shirts, water bottles, and safety gear such as flashing lights and reflective signs reading "Drive Safely, Care for Fellow Travelers" to attach under their bicycle seats, aiming to reduce accidents. At the same time, the association and ThaiHealth are campaigning against the use of e-cigarettes, which are as harmful as traditional cigarettes, by providing exhibitions to educate cyclists about their dangers.

Sakon Aksornthanawat, Director of Vajiralongkorn Dam, said the dam has fully prepared the cycling routes for the first round of the Thailand Road Cycling Championships. The venue offers some of the most beautiful cycling routes in Thailand, with a golf course, football field, shooting range, restaurants, tourist attractions, accommodations for athletes and visitors, and a camping area that can host several hundred people. He thanked General Decha Hemakasri, President of the Cycling Association of Thailand, for choosing Vajiralongkorn Dam as the venue for the Thailand Road Cycling Championships for over 10 consecutive years. The dam is committed to fully supporting the association’s activities and warmly welcomes athletes and their entourages from across the country.
