
Kavisara Amkarnert and Pityaporn Saetan won the road cycling event at the 2026 Thailand National Championships for the Royal Trophy, round 1, held at Vajiralongkorn Dam.
On 17 January 2026, Kavisara Amkarnert, a female rider from the Fisherman Friend Chiang Mai team, delivered an outstanding performance to win the women's youth category at the 2026 Thailand National Road Cycling Championships for the Royal Trophy, round 1, at Vajiralongkorn Dam, Thong Pha Phum District, Kanchanaburi Province. Meanwhile, Pityaporn Saetan, also from Fisherman Friend Chiang Mai, claimed the women's under-23 title.
The national road cycling championships for the King's Phumiphon Royal Trophy and the mountain biking championships for the Royal Trophy of His Majesty the King were held from 16-18 January at Vajiralongkorn Dam, Thong Pha Phum District, Kanchanaburi Province. The road event opening ceremony on 16 January took place at the helicopter pad area at Vajiralongkorn Dam, presided over by Mr. Satit Suwannawanich, Senior District Officer of Thong Pha Phum, with General Pop Anan Luangpanawat, Vice Chairman of the Advisory Committee of the Cycling Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage, Mr. Sakon Aksornthanawat, Director of Vajiralongkorn Dam, Mr. Prathet Boonyong, Mayor of Tha Khanun Municipality and Vice President of the Cycling Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage, and race officials also attending.
Mr. Sakon Aksornthanawat, Director of Vajiralongkorn Dam, revealed that the national road and mountain bike championships for the Royal Trophy have been continuously held at Vajiralongkorn Dam for 15 consecutive years, attracting many athletes and tourists. On 7 January, His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen graciously presided over the opening of the Saranchit Health Park in celebration of the auspicious 6th cycle birthday anniversary on 28 July 2024 at Vajiralongkorn Dam, raising the profile of both the park and dam significantly, an immeasurable royal kindness.
Mr. Sakon added that Vajiralongkorn Dam fully supports the activities of the Cycling Association of Thailand. Besides the road and mountain bike race routes, the dam area offers many tourist attractions including 10 check-in spots, the Khao Laem Skywalk, and a slide area. There is also a BMX track meeting Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) standards and a pump track located within Saranchit Health Park, open for tourists to visit and use.
For the road race's first round, the Cycling Association of Thailand registered the time trial and road race events with the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) as CN level competitions. Winners in each category earn the right to wear the Thailand national champion jersey featuring the Thai flag design in internationally recognized UCI events in 2025. Additionally, the mountain bike downhill competition was live-streamed on the Thailand Cycling Association Facebook page and the TCA Channel YouTube, garnering over 16,000 views. On the same afternoon, a "Bike for Life - TCA GREEN CYCLING" health ride was held on a 4.7 km route within Vajiralongkorn Dam. The opening ceremony was presided over by Mr. Prathet Boonyong, Mayor of Tha Khanun Municipality and Vice President of the Cycling Association of Thailand. Mr. Sakon Aksornthanawat, Director of Vajiralongkorn Dam, along with dam executives, government officials, and many members of the public participated in the event.
The Cycling Association also organized a bicycle safety exhibition distributing flashing lights and reflective stickers labeled “Ride Safely, Care for Fellow Riders” to participants for installation under bike seats to reduce accidents. There was also an exhibit on the dangers of e-cigarettes and a free bicycle repair clinic encouraging the public to bring old bikes for repair, saving costs in line with King Rama IX’s "Sufficiency Economy" philosophy. Additionally, there were contests for creatively decorated economical bicycles and vintage bike displays, plus awards for the oldest and youngest male and female participants.
The race program for Saturday, 17 January, included cross-country mountain bike competitions: Class A starting at 09:00 and Class B at 12:00, each covering 4.1 km laps within Vajiralongkorn Dam. The opening ceremony was honored by Ms. Waristha Sanguansermsri, Governor of Kanchanaburi Province, who served as the event's chairperson.
