Phumrat Excels to Win Cross-Country Mountain Bike Championship at Thailand National MTB Championships, Round 1 in Thong Pha Phum

Phumrat delivered an outstanding performance to win the cross-country mountain bike championship at the first round of the Thailand National MTB Championships held in Thong Pha Phum.


Phumrat Chalermkit, a Thai national cyclist and silver medalist in the international cross-country mountain bike event “2026 Thailand MTB Cup” from the Fisherman Friend Wat Dong Noi team, achieved excellent results by winning the youth women's cross-country category at the 2026 Thailand Mountain Bike Championships for the Royal Trophy, Round 1, held at Vajiralongkorn Dam, Thong Pha Phum District, Kanchanaburi Province.


The road cycling and mountain biking national championships for the King Bhumibol Royal Trophy 2026 took place from 16-18 January at Vajiralongkorn Dam, Thong Pha Phum District, Kanchanaburi Province. The road cycling opening ceremony on 17 January at the helicopter parking area of Vajiralongkorn Dam was honored by Ms. Warittha Sanguansermsri, Governor of Kanchanaburi, along with General Phop Anan Luangphanawat, Vice Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Cycling Association of Thailand under the Royal Patronage, Mr. Sakon Aksornthanawat, Director of Vajiralongkorn Dam, Mr. Prathet Boonyong, Mayor of Tha Khanun Municipality, and other government officials.


Additionally, there was a flag handover ceremony symbolizing the hosting of the road and mountain bike national championships to Phichit Province, which will host Round 2. Ms. Asmaporn Sualek, Director of the Sports Authority of Thailand office in Phichit, represented the province to receive the flag. Phichit will hold the competition from 20-22 February, with the road race using the Saranjit Mongkolsuk Cycling Stadium (Bueng Si Fai) and nearby areas, and the mountain bike events held in Wang Thap Sai Subdistrict, Sak Lek District.


Ms. Warittha Sanguansermsri, Governor of Kanchanaburi, expressed gratitude to the Cycling Association of Thailand for organizing the national cycling championships in Kanchanaburi, especially at Vajiralongkorn Dam, which can accommodate all cycling disciplines including road, mountain biking, BMX, and balance bike tracks located at Saranjit Health Park. She noted that on 7 January, Their Majesties the King and Queen graciously presided over the opening of Saranjit Health Park, a great royal kindness.


Ms. Warittha added that she also thanks all involved in organizing the championships, which help stimulate the local economy as many athletes and followers gather in Thong Pha Phum District, including international participants in the “2026 Thailand MTB Cup.” All cyclists get to appreciate the beautiful scenery of Vajiralongkorn Dam and the readiness in accommodation, dining, and safe, convenient transportation. She warmly invites everyone to watch the cycling competitions and visit Kanchanaburi Province, where the local people welcome all visitors.


In the men's public category of the mountain bike cross-country race, the results were: 1st place Mr. Polchat Nakthongkham from the Air Force Cycling Team KOM-KOM with a time of 1:07:13; 2nd place Lt. Woraphong Muangsuk from the Navy Team with 1:07:59; 3rd place Sgt. Punsiri Sirimongkol from the Office of the Permanent Secretary of Defense Team with 1:10:33.


In the men's under-23 category, 1st place went to Lt. Woraphong Muangsuk from the Navy Team with 1:07:59; 2nd place Mr. Put Andreas Supawongwatana from Lomocycle Core Nutrition with 1:17:46; 3rd place Mr. Kamonthacha Introng from the Air Force Cycling Team KOM-KOM with 1:18:39.


In the boys' youth category, 1st place was Mr. Natchanon Jaidee from the Air Force Cycling Team Rannong Racing (Banharn Concrete) with 55:57; 2nd place Mr. Prin Chuwan from Yala Bike Club with 1:00:36; 3rd place Mr. Kittipon Iamklai from Krabi Bike Team with 1:01:33.


In the women's public category, 1st place was Ms. Warintorn Phetprapan from Lenso Cycling Team with 1:07:07; 2nd place Ms. Pinpak Chiang Suan from Royal Thai Navy Core Cycling with 1:12:13; 3rd place Ms. Pornpak Praphothang from Chiang Khan Military Circle 28 with 1:13:13.


In the women's under-23 category, 1st place was Ms. Pinpak Chiang Suan, a Thai national cyclist and silver medalist in the international cross-country mountain bike event “2026 Thailand MTB Cup” from Royal Thai Navy Core Cycling with 1:12:13; 2nd place Ms. Pornpak Praphothang from Chiang Khan Military Circle 28 with 1:13:13.


In the girls' youth category, the championship went to Ms. Phumrat Chalermkit, a Thai national cyclist and silver medalist in the international cross-country mountain bike event “2026 Thailand MTB Cup” from the Fisherman Friend Wat Dong Noi team, with a time of 58:14; 2nd place Ms. Plaifa Kotosi from BIKENET with 1:11:15.


The competition program on Sunday, 18 January, includes the road cycling road race starting at 8:00 a.m. The route begins at the helicopter parking area within Vajiralongkorn Dam, heading toward Ban Boen Hin Dat and returning to finish at the Vajiralongkorn Dam ridge with a distance of 72 km, except for the men's public and under-23 categories which will cover 105.5 km. Thai PBS Television will broadcast live on channel 3 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Additionally, a mountain bike eliminator event will start at 9:00 a.m., held at the forest edge near the helicopter parking area over an 800-meter course.
