Cambodia Sets Minimum 30 Million Baht Bonus If Athlete Wins First Olympic Gold in 2028

Cambodia sets a minimum bonus of 30 million baht if an athlete wins Olympic gold.

On 20 Jan 2026 GMT+7, the latest sports development in Cambodia is that the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) and the American Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia (AmCham) have joined forces to support Cambodia’s efforts to succeed on the Olympic stage.

Vath Chamroeun, Secretary-General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, clearly announced readiness to offer a 1 million USD, or about 31 million baht, bonus to Cambodian athletes if they win gold at the 2028 Olympics in the United States.

Currently, we are targeting nearly 10 sports where we have the potential to win Cambodia’s first Olympic medal in history. Most are combat sports, along with swimming and athletics. We need to identify and select talented and highly committed athletes, then support their training both domestically and abroad at specialized training centers to prepare for the Olympics.”

Previously, the Cambodian government issued a sub-royal decree concerning prize money. Medalists may receive starting rewards of 30,000 USD. If any athlete wins Cambodia’s first Olympic gold medal, I believe they will receive no less than 1 million USD and become a national hero, an important sports figure in our history. The career path and family legacy they earn will be immensely valuable.”
