The BMX Thailand Championship kicked off its first round in Si Satchanalai District, drawing riders from all directions to compete.
Cyclists from all over headed to Si Satchanalai to compete in the first round of the 2026 BMX Thailand Championship, held on 24-25 January 2026. The opening ceremony was honored by Noparit Sirikosol, Governor of Sukhothai, as the presiding official. Chaiya Boonkerd, Mayor of Si Satchanalai, warmly welcomed riders from across the country, confident the event would boost the local economy and promote tourism in Si Satchanalai District. The competition venue was reported to be fully prepared.
Gen. Decha Hemkrasri, Vice President of the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC), President of the ASEAN Cycling Federation (ACF), and President of the Cycling Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage, announced that the association, together with Sukhothai Province and Si Satchanalai Municipality, organized the 2026 BMX Thailand Championship for the Royal Trophy of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. The first round took place on 24-25 January at the BMX Chalerm Phrakiat Track in Si Satchanalai Municipality, marking the first competition of the year.
Gen. Decha stated that as this was the year's first round, it attracted significant interest from riders nationwide. Registration had already reached nearly 200 participants, with expectations of over 400 riders competing on race days. Besides the influx of cyclists into Si Satchanalai District, thousands of accompanying supporters and family members were expected, generating increased spending on hotels, shops, and restaurants. This would add economic value and stimulate tourism in the district. According to Chaiya Boonkerd, Mayor of Si Satchanalai, nearly all local hotels were fully booked, and those who had not yet arranged accommodations might need to stay farther from the venue.
Gen. Decha added that BMX athletes should prepare physically, as the Si Satchanalai Chalerm Phrakiat BMX track is longer than others and demands considerable strength for each moto race. The Cycling Association will also select young riders to strengthen Thailand's national team in youth and under-23 categories for upcoming international competitions. The opening ceremony on 24 January at 08:30 featured Noparit Sirikosol, Governor of Sukhothai, as the presiding official at the monument of King Maha Thammaracha I (Phra Litha). The governor led participants in paying respects and signing blessings before officially releasing the athletes to compete.
Chaiya Boonkerd, Mayor of Si Satchanalai, expressed gratitude to the Cycling Association for bringing the BMX Thailand Championship to the district, helping to stimulate the local economy and promote tourism. The municipality had fully prepared the competition venue, allowing riders to begin practice immediately upon arrival. During the event, local vendors sold various goods, including traditional OTOP silver and gold handicrafts from Si Satchanalai. After the competition, athletes and their supporters could visit nearby attractions such as Si Satchanalai National Park, Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat Rajavihara, Wat Chedi Chet Thao, Wat Nang Phaya, and the Sangkhalok Kiln Study and Conservation Center (Thu Rueang Kiln). The people of Si Satchanalai warmly welcomed all participants and their companions.
