Thai Sepak Takraw Association President Resigns After Mens National Team Misses All Gold Medals at 2025 SEA Games

Big Tom Thana Chaiprasit submitted a resignation letter as sepak takraw president after the SEA Games results missed the target.

On 3 Feb 2026 GMT+7, Big Tom Thana Chaiprasit, president of the Sepak Takraw Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage, submitted his resignation to take responsibility for the SEA Games performance that failed to meet goals in several events.

The resignation letter stated, “At the 33rd SEA Games hosted by Thailand, especially in the men's sepak takraw events where the team lost in all categories for the first time in 34 years, this has caused disappointment among the public and sports fans. Despite sepak takraw's historical success, I accept responsibility and resign as president of the Sepak Takraw Association of Thailand, allowing the association to proceed with selecting a new executive team according to the bylaws.”

The sepak takraw performance at the SEA Games missed three key gold medals, including:

The men's team lost the gold medal for the first time in 34 years after a 1-2 defeat to Malaysia in the final; the men's singles team lost to Vietnam and was eliminated in the semifinals.

The men's four-player team secured a bronze medal after losing 1-2 to Vietnam in the semifinals.

Additionally, at the Pre-Asian Games, the team missed gold after a 0-2 loss to India in the semifinals.

Following this, the association will organize elections for a new executive team within 30 days.
