Janpeng Nontasinsin achieved an outstanding result, winning her second consecutive Asian championship in the women's master 40-44 age group road race at the 2026 Asian Road Cycling Championships held in Saudi Arabia.
"Sergeant Major Muek" General Decha Hemkrasri, Vice President of the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC), President of the ASEAN Cycling Federation (ACF), and President of the Cycling Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage, stated that the Thai Cycling Association sent the national team to compete in the 2026 Asian Road Cycling Championships from 5-11 February in Saudi Arabia. He reported that according to "Coach Tum" Wisut Kasiyaphat, team manager and head coach, the Thai national cyclists have won an additional gold medal and two bronze medals.
General Decha said the gold medal was won by Lieutenant Colonel Janpeng Nontasinsin in the women's master 40-44 age group road race over 46.8 km. Janpeng broke away solo to cross the finish line first with a time of 1:22:58, marking her second gold medal in this competition and her second consecutive Asian championship in this event, having previously won the Asian time trial twice. The silver medal went to Pakistan's Syinap Rizwan with a time of 1:25:08, and the bronze to Lisa Cheng from Hong Kong with the same time of 1:25:08.
"Sergeant Major Muek" added that the two bronze medals were earned by Narongdej Saengchai in the men's master 35-39 age group road race over 62.4 km with a time of 2:59:24. The gold medal in this event went to Ahmed Aldiwani from Iraq with 2:57:36, and silver to Kai Chun Wong from Hong Kong with 2:59:23, just one second ahead of Narongdej. The other bronze medal was won by Suriya Saengbun in the men's master 50-54 age group road race over 62.4 km, finishing with a time of 3:04:41. Gold went to Norhasmat Abdul Aziz from Malaysia with 3:04:06, and silver to Humid Alsubbakh from the United Arab Emirates also with 3:04:06. Meanwhile, in the women's elite category over 109.2 km, Sergeant Major Petdarint Somrat finished 7th with a time of 2:45:17, a respectable performance though without a medal. The gold medal in this race was won by Hao Zhang from China with 2:25:12.
"Looking at the overall picture, the Thai cycling team has performed excellently, securing 3 gold medals, 1 silver, and 3 bronze so far. However, Thai cyclists still have chances to win additional medals in the men's and women's under-23 road race, youth categories, and men's elite road race, where Arthit Pollard, a Thai-French cyclist, is competing. In the recent time trial event, Arthit had a chance for a bronze medal if he had not crashed and broken his bike handlebar. I ask the Thai public to continue supporting our cyclists in their pursuit of more medals to bring honor to Thailand. Thank you," General Decha concluded.
