
Khao Phraya Dern Thong Municipality is preparing to welcome cyclists coming from all directions to compete in the Thailand Open cycling competition.
“Mayor Tee,” Surasak Chermsombat, mayor of Khao Phraya Dern Thong Municipality, warmly welcomed cyclists arriving from all over the country to compete in the Thailand Open mountain bike road race and road cycling championship for 2026. The first round will be held on 14-15 February 2026 at Khao Phraya Dern Thong Municipality in Phatthana Nikhom District, Lopburi Province. “Sergeant Muek” invited cyclists to bring their partners and families to join the race during the Valentine’s Day festival and to explore local attractions such as the Pa Sak Jolasid Dam and the 270-degree viewpoint, which serves as the race finish line and is a highlight of the event.
“Sergeant Muek,” General Decha Hemkrasri, Vice President of the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC), President of the ASEAN Cycling Federation (ACF), and President of the Cycling Association of Thailand under the Royal Patronage, announced that the Cycling Association, in collaboration with Khao Phraya Dern Thong Municipality, Phatthana Nikhom District, Lopburi Province, is organizing the Thailand Open mountain bike road race and road cycling championship. The event, competing for the royal trophy of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, will be held at Khao Phraya Dern Thong Municipality from 14 to 15 February 2026.
General Decha noted that the event coincides with Valentine’s Day, making it ideal for couples and families to participate together. After the race, participants can celebrate Valentine’s Day locally. Phatthana Nikhom District offers many attractions, including the Pa Sak Jolasid Dam, the longest earth dam in Thailand, offering tram rides, an aquarium, and picnic spots by the water. Visitors can also ride the floating train along the Khok Salung route. The 270-degree viewpoint atop Khao Phraya Dern Thong, the finish line for both race categories, offers views of the dam, floating railway, morning mist, and the Thai Boeng folk museum in Khok Salung to learn about local culture.
General Decha added that he recently received a report from “Mayor Tee,” Surasak Chermsombat, stating that accommodations and resorts in Khao Phraya Dern Thong Municipality are nearly fully booked. He urged cyclists who have not yet reserved lodging to do so promptly to avoid having to stay far from the race venue. Meanwhile, the municipality has completed preparations, including race routes, traffic management, security, and first aid, to ensure the utmost safety for athletes.
“Mayor Tee,” Surasak Chermsombat, mayor of Khao Phraya Dern Thong Municipality, said the municipality has coordinated with police, public health officials, volunteer rescue foundations, and local defense volunteers to plan duties during the competition. On 12 February at 10:00 a.m., the municipality and the Cycling Association of Thailand will hold a detailed coordination meeting with involved agencies to ensure the event runs smoothly and safely.
Surasak added that with cyclists and followers arriving from all over Thailand, the municipality has coordinated with the Nong Kradi community market, which normally operates only on Fridays. For the competition on 14-15 February, coinciding with Valentine’s Day, the market will open specially, featuring about 20 local vendors selling products such as kaffir lime from Khun Metta’s garden, the Phatthana Nikhom Women’s Occupational Group, Mae Kiang’s coconut jelly sweets, Ekvijit and Rawintanai farms, Kalpapruek farm, Chutima’s sufficiency economy products, Pa Sak Pla Raberd shop, Je Muay Lek shoe store, Wow Wow bakery, grilled chicken som tam, fruits, mini crepes, duck egg treats, and Kanaya basketry, to serve over 1,000 expected athletes and visitors.
The mountain bike road race, the first round of the Thailand Open cycling championship, is scheduled for Saturday, 14 February. The race starts at Khao Phraya Dern Thong Municipality, proceeding along Road 3333 past Lopburi Agricultural and Technology College, then through sunflower fields, turning left at Khok Salung intersection, continuing straight on Road 21, then turning left at Manow Wan intersection, finishing at the 270-degree viewpoint atop Khao Phraya Dern Thong. The course covers 51 kilometers and will be broadcast live on Facebook Live via Thailand Cycling Association and YouTube on the TCA Channel starting at 7:30 a.m.
The road cycling race, the first round of the Thailand Open championship, will take place on Sunday, 15 February. The route begins at Khao Phraya Dern Thong Municipality, entering Soi 16, Sai 2, turning left onto Road 5042, passing sunflower fields, turning left at Khok Salung intersection, continuing to Road 21, turning left at Manow Wan intersection, and finishing at the 270-degree viewpoint atop Khao Phraya Dern Thong. The distance is 61 kilometers, except for the children’s category, which covers 14 kilometers. The event will also be broadcast live on Facebook Live via Thailand Cycling Association and on YouTube’s TCA Channel from 7:30 a.m.
Athletes interested in competing can register on the Cycling Association of Thailand’s website at www.thaicycling.or.th starting now until registration closes at 12:00 noon on Thursday, 12 February.
