Former Snooker World Champion and Saraburi Peoples Party MP Candidate Decides After Election Vote Irregularities

Big Saraburi submitted a letter to the Election Commission requesting a recount of the MP election votes in Saraburi's District 3.

On 12 Feb 2026 GMT+7, following the MP election on 8 Feb 2026 GMT+7, some citizens protested in multiple districts calling for a vote recount, citing concerns over transparency in the counting process.

Recently, “Big Saraburi,” or Atthasit Mahitthi, a hero who made history by winning the snooker world championship for Thailand in 2007, and a People's Party candidate in Saraburi's District 3, submitted a letter requesting a vote recount after losing to the Bhumjaithai Party candidate in that district.

The issue arose because the election website reported 95% of votes counted, showing first place going to Watcharapong Kuwijitsuwan of Bhumjaithai Party with 35,796 votes, and second place to Atthasit Mahitthi of the People's Party with 18,391 votes, with 65,098 voters. However, the Saraburi Election Commission's Facebook page published a graphic summary showing 100% of votes counted for all four districts, but the District 3 results differed: Watcharapong led with 53,967 votes, Atthasit had 28,831 votes, and voter turnout was 99,297.

Big Saraburi posted on Facebook: “I have submitted a letter requesting a recount at the Saraburi Election Commission. We accept election results; winning and losing is understandable because I am an athlete. #EveryVoteIsTheWillOfThePeople Big Saraburi Atthasit Mahitthi.”

It remains to be seen whether a recount will occur. Once the official results are certified by the Election Commission, the composition of the government and cabinet will be clear. This entire process is expected to conclude in about one month.
