Thailand Seriously Discusses 5-Billion-Baht Sports Center Development with Private Sector

The Sports Authority of Thailand collaborates with the private sector to plan the enhancement of a 5-billion-baht sports center development project.

Dr. Kongsak Yodmanee, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), chaired a meeting to gather private sector opinions on the service upgrade project (SMART NATIONAL SPORTS PARK). Present were Mr. Pongpanu Sewatrun, Advisor to the Governor of SAT; Mr. Surasak Koedchanthuek, Deputy Governor for Sports Promotion; Ms. Nittaya Koedchanthuek, Director of the Professional Sports Committee Office; Mr. Wutthichai Chaijit, Director of Sports Business; and executives from the private sector. The meeting was held at The Grand Four Wings Convention Hotel, Bangkok, on 12 February 2026.

Dr. Kongsak Yodmanee, Governor of SAT, said that the Sports Authority of Thailand has been implementing the SMART NATIONAL SPORTS PARK service upgrade project continuously since 2019. The aim is to develop sports facilities for excellence, advance sports science, improve public service areas, and promote the sports industry along with commercial area development. The project budget comes from annual funds, collaborations with various agencies (MOU), and most importantly, significant funding from private sector investments in sports venues such as Rajamangala National Stadium and the Indoor Stadium. These are vital sports infrastructure and public service facilities with high value, making private sector expertise and investment necessary. The project is estimated to be worth over 5 billion baht. This meeting is highly important as it opens the floor to investors and private sector stakeholders ready to provide valuable information, opinions, and suggestions beneficial to the project. The Sports Authority of Thailand believes that the SMART NATIONAL SPORTS PARK will be a crucial step in upgrading the country's sports infrastructure, enhancing Thai athletes' potential, supporting the sports industry, and generating sustainable economic and social benefits in the long term.

The SMART NATIONAL SPORTS PARK project focuses on developing sports facilities for excellence by integrating technology, innovation, and sports science to systematically support athlete and sports personnel development. It also aims to improve public service areas, recreational and health spaces for the public, and promote the sports industry and commercial zones to generate revenue and increase management efficiency sustainably.
