
Pongpeera delivered an outstanding performance to claim double championships at the Thailand Mountain Bike Championships held in Pong Nam Ron, Chanthaburi Province.
Pongpeera Pongayukul, a Thai national cyclist preparing for the 20th Asian Games, showcased his excellent form by winning double titles in both the men's open category and men's under-23 category at the Thailand Mountain Bike Championships for the Royal Trophy 2026, Round 4, held in Pong Nam Ron District, Chanthaburi Province. Meanwhile, the "Bike for Life - TCA GREEN CYCLING" health cycling event, supported by the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth), saw a large turnout of cyclists.
The 4th round of the Thailand Road Cycling Championships for the King's Bhumibol Royal Trophy and the Thailand Mountain Bike Championships for the Royal Trophy 2026 took place from 24 to 26 April. The event was organized by the Cycling Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage, in cooperation with Chanthaburi Province, Pong Nam Ron District, Thap Sai Subdistrict Municipality, and the Ek Phaniangthong Foundation. The mountain bike cross-country competition opening ceremony was held on 25 April at Khlong Phra Phut Reservoir, presided over by Mr. Praphit Yanpanya, District Chief of Pong Nam Ron. Attending were Navy Captain Thitiporn Noyrak, Secretary-General of the Cycling Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage; Ms. Phumarin Petchchamli, Senior District Officer of Pong Nam Ron; Mr. Kasem Kasemsri, Mayor of Thap Sai Subdistrict Municipality; and other government officials.
Additionally, a flag handover ceremony took place, transferring the symbolic host flag for the Thailand Road and Mountain Bike Championships Royal Trophy to Tak Province, which will host the 5th and final round. Mr. Uthan Panphoka, Assistant Director of Bhumibol Dam 2, and Mr. Natthawat Fuekphon, Director of the Sports Authority of Thailand office in Tak, represented Tak Province to receive the flag. Tak will hold the competition from 7 to 9 August, with both road and mountain bike events using courses within Bhumibol Dam and Sam Ngao District.
Mr. Uthan Panphoka, Assistant Director of Bhumibol Dam 2, revealed that after being honored to host the 5th round of the Thailand Road and Mountain Bike Championships, Governor Chusak Ruaying has instructed all relevant agencies to cooperate fully. This includes Sam Ngao Police Station overseeing safety and traffic during the races, Sam Ngao Hospital providing emergency vehicles and medical support, volunteer rescue foundations, and all local administrative organizations in the area. Inside Bhumibol Dam, staff will assist to ensure maximum safety for the cyclists.
Mr. Uthan added that Bhumibol Dam has prepared the racecourses for both road and mountain biking, which cyclists praise as enjoyable routes. The downhill course is particularly challenging and tests riders’ skills. Another benefit is the economic boost to local communities, with vendors and community enterprises selling products and nearly all resorts fully booked by cyclists. The event also promotes fitness awareness among youth and the general public. He invited cyclists nationwide to join the final decisive race at Bhumibol Dam, where the people of Tak Province warmly welcome all participants.
In the mountain bike cross-country competition, registered with the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) as a national championship CN event, notable results included: Men’s open category (22 km) – 1st place: Mr. Pongpeera Pongayukul, Thai national cyclist preparing for the 20th Asian Games, representing Club Mamui Nakhon Sawan-Fisherman Friend Chiang Mai, finishing in 1:08:58; 2nd place: Sergeant Major Poonsiri Sirimongkol from the Office of the Permanent Secretary for Defence, 1:09:16; 3rd place: Sergeant Phanupong Srisang from Lenso Army Team, 1:09:37.
Men’s under-23 category (22 km) – 1st place: Mr. Pongpeera Pongayukul from Club Mamui Nakhon Sawan-Fisherman Friend Chiang Mai, 1:08:58, securing a double championship; 2nd place: Mr. Worapong Muangsuk from Navy Team, 1:12:53; 3rd place: Mr. Kamonthacha Inthong from Air Force Cycling Team, 1:22:99.
Women’s open category (17.6 km) – 1st place: Ms. Pinpak Chiangsuang from Royal Thai Navy Core Cycling Team, 1:15:13; 2nd place: Ms. Pornpak Proptang from Chiang Khan Military Circle 28 Team, 1:25:09. Both also secured 1st and 2nd places respectively in the women’s under-23 category.
Boys’ youth category (17.6 km) – 1st place: Mr. Natchanon Jaidee from Air Force Cycling Team Raenong Racing (Banharn Concrete), 59:24; 2nd place: Mr. Jinnana Thipyasri from BIKE NET Team, 1:02:12; 3rd place: Mr. Ruchayus Kukit from Prachinburi Cycling Association (Khao E-To), 1:03:28.
Girls’ youth category (13.2 km) – 1st place: Ms. Phumrat Chalermkit, Thai national cyclist preparing for the 20th Asian Games, from Fisherman Friend Wat Dong Noi Team, 54:59; 2nd place: Ms. Kawisara Amkamnerd from Fisherman Friend Chiang Mai Team, 1:02:26; 3rd place: Ms. Plaifa Kotosi from BIKE NET Team, 1:14:23. On the afternoon of the same day, the "Bike for Life - TCA GREEN CYCLING" health cycling event took place in front of the Pong Nam Ron District Office. This collaboration involved the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth), the Cycling Association of Thailand, the Ek Phaniangthong Foundation, Pong Nam Ron District, and Thap Sai Subdistrict Municipality. The opening ceremony was presided over by Mr. Thawat Chai Namsamut, Deputy Governor of Chanthaburi Province, alongside Mr. Peeranut Rattanaworaopas, advisor and committee member of the Chanthaburi Sports Association, and advisor to the mayor of Thap Sai. Many cyclists from clubs in Pong Nam Ron and nearby districts participated, covering a 9.3-kilometer round trip route from the district office to Wat Nam Khiao and back.
Additionally, the Cycling Association of Thailand organized an exhibition on safe cycling, distributing flashing lights and reflective signs labeled "Ride Safely, Care for Fellow Road Users" for participants to attach under their bike saddles to reduce accidents. There was also an exhibit on the dangers of e-cigarettes. Meanwhile, a free bicycle repair clinic was offered, allowing people to bring old bikes for maintenance to extend their use, following the Sufficiency Economy philosophy of King Rama IX. The event also included contests for creatively decorated economical bicycles, vintage bicycles, and awards for the oldest and youngest male and female participants.
On Sunday, 26 April, the road cycling competition, the Road Race event, began with an opening ceremony at 07:30, presided over by Mr. Kasem Kasemsri, Mayor of Thap Sai Subdistrict Municipality. The race started at 08:00 from the Pong Nam Ron District Office, covering an 82-kilometer circuit returning to the start. The men’s open category extended the route by an additional half lap, totaling 121 kilometers. The event was broadcast live on Facebook Live via the Thailand Cycling Association and TCA Channel, as well as on YouTube: TCA Channel, starting at 07:30. Additionally, the mountain bike Eliminator competition began at 09:00 at the Khlong Phra Phut Reservoir, with a 700-meter course.
