Two Brothers Carry Refrigerator Running Marathon to Fundraise for Alzheimers Research Organization

"Two brothers" carry a refrigerator while running a marathon to raise funds for an Alzheimer's research organization.

Jordan and Kean Adams, two brothers known as the FTD siblings, have raised nearly £500,000 by carrying a 25-kilogram refrigerator on their backs during the London Marathon last weekend.

Both brothers inherited a gene from their mother, meaning they have a 99% chance of developing the disease. They are at risk of dementia by age 40 and ran the 26.2-mile (42-kilometer) marathon on Sunday to raise funds for Alzheimer's Research UK.

Their GoFundMe page from Redditch has collected over £450,000, close to their £550,000 target set for running 32 consecutive marathons across Ireland over the next 32 days.

Jordan told BBC 5Live from the start of his first marathon in Antrim, Ireland, "We are in Ireland to honor 12 relatives we lost to frontotemporal dementia or FTD, all of whom were Irish."

"We will run 32 marathons in 32 days, but I wanted the London Marathon to be the starting point so people can see and hear our story as much as possible," he added.

"What better way than this? Last November, I came up with the idea to carry a household appliance on my back while running the London Marathon," he said.

Jordan said he and his family feel "extremely grateful" for the media coverage he and his brother received about the London race.

"We've been trying to share this story for 8-9 years, and finally it seems to be resonating. We've received extensive media coverage, which we appreciate greatly. Since our mother passed away, our family has raised £800,000. We still need £200,000 to reach our goal, but I believe we won't stop even when we reach it."
