
The Thai national weightlifting team and officials returned safely to Thailand after completing their participation in the 2026 Youth World Weightlifting Championships held from 2-8 May 2026 in Ismailia, Egypt, winning 3 gold, 4 silver, and 1 bronze medal.
On 10 May 2026, General Wisut Detsakul, Secretary-General of the Amateur Weightlifting Association of Thailand and team manager for the 2026 Youth World Weightlifting Championships in Ismailia, Egypt, arrived back in Thailand. He was welcomed by Ms. Patama Lamtem, Deputy Secretary-General and Treasurer, and Ms. Thorapatsathorn Wajithanjaroenkul, Public Relations Chairperson, who presented flowers to the team. The athletes included Thanaporn Saetia, who won 3 gold medals in the women's 63 kg category; Natcha Kaewnoi, 3 silver medals in women's 53 kg; Naruemol Wonghajak, 1 silver in women's 48 kg; Sutasin Kaewsingkhorn, 1 bronze in women's 48 kg; Natnicha Karaket, women's 63 kg; and Natthida Robroo, women's over 86 kg. Coaches included Captain Pimshiri Sirikaew, Ms. Annipar Multhar, and Sergeant Kwanchai Nuchphum.
General Wisut Detsakul, as team manager, described the results as satisfactory, noting that most athletes performed well and met their training goals. Moving forward, they will address shortcomings, especially regarding physical preparation by incorporating sports science to strengthen muscles and improve nutrition. The Weightlifting Association also plans to send athletes at youth and junior levels, as well as amateurs, to more international competitions. A key upcoming event is the 20th Asian Games “Nagoya-Aichi 2026” in Japan, scheduled from 19 September to 4 October 2026.
