Countdown has begun for the 23rd Samui Regatta international sailing race, scheduled from 23–30 May 2026 at Chaweng Beach, Koh Samui, Surat Thani Province. The event reaffirms its status as one of Asia's premier sailing competitions, gathering sailing teams worldwide to compete amid the beautiful scenery of Koh Samui. It also highlights Thailand's potential as a global marine tourism destination, promotes the trend of Experiential Coastal Living, and positions Koh Samui and Thailand as destinations for young, active island lifestyle travelers worldwide.
This year marks the proud 23rd anniversary of the Samui Regatta. Beyond being the longest-running sporting event on Koh Samui, it is also part of the Asian Yacht Circuit sailing calendar and the only multi-class sailing competition held in the Gulf of Thailand. Last year, it generated an economic value of 80 million baht for local businesses. This year, over 300 participants from Asia, Australia, Europe, and America are expected, along with high-quality spectators including yacht owners, businesspeople, and global travelers.
Mr. Sukrit Thongsuk, president of the Koh Samui Tourism Promotion Association, revealed, “The Samui Regatta reflects the Experiential Coastal Living lifestyle trend, which is gaining popularity in tourism by perfectly blending sports, lifestyle, and travel. Koh Samui is fully prepared to offer a comprehensive Active Island Lifestyle experience in one destination, including sports such as sailing and diving; wellness services like yoga, Pilates, and detox from world-class hotels and local providers; alongside a colorful, relaxed beach life focused on outdoor living; cultural experiences through local traditions; and food experiences ranging from local cuisine to international fine dining and Michelin-starred restaurants. In the past, the event has generated over 50 million baht in publicity value both domestically and internationally, reinforcing an active sport and luxury lifestyle image that aligns with the behaviors of today's consumers.
The Samui Regatta international sailing race is organized by Regattas Asia in collaboration with leading national sports and tourism agencies, supported by both government and private sectors locally.
