Cause of Death of Thai National Ice Hockey Player Tan-Chanakchanon Revealed as Blood Infection

The cause of death of "Chanakchanon Limpinpetch," a young ice hockey player for the Thai national team, was revealed to be a blood infection.

On 18 May 2026, it was disclosed that "Tan" Chanakchanon Limpinpetch, a young Thai national ice hockey player, died at age 27 due to sepsis. Colleagues in the sport, the Ice Hockey Association of Thailand, and Dr. Suwana Silpa-acha, the Thai national team manager, all expressed their condolences.

It was revealed that on 15 May, Chanakchanon drove from Chumphon province to Bangkok and stayed at a home in Bang Bua Thong district. At 3 a.m. on 16 May, he developed a high fever and took medication which lowered it by 5 a.m. That morning, he went to queue to buy a watch at the One Bangkok shopping center, but his condition did not improve. On the way home, he was taken to Kasemrad Hospital.

On the morning of 17 May at 8:00 a.m., Chanakchanon's condition worsened until his heart stopped. Medical staff performed CPR and used a heart pump machine to try to save him, but by 12:00 p.m., he could not be revived. "Tan" passed away, bringing grief to his family and the ice hockey community. Doctors concluded he died from sepsis. After an autopsy, his body will be taken for Christian funeral rites in Chumphon province.

Mom Luang Krisada Kasemsan, president of the Ice Hockey Association of Thailand, expressed deep sorrow. He said it was a great loss of an important national athlete with a bright future, who was also a key player on the team. Chanakchanon was a role model for discipline in training and maintaining his physical condition for competition.

"The association and all national team athletes have fond memories of Tan because he was well-mannered, friendly, and easy to get along with, making him beloved by everyone on the team," said Mom Luang Krisada.

"Tan" first joined the senior Thai national team at age 20 during the 2019 SEA Games and remained a member through the final match at the 2025 SEA Games hosted by Thailand. He wore jersey number 42, played as a forward, and was considered a main player on Thailand's national ice hockey team's second line.
