Thana Chaiprasit confirmed that the matter would need to be taken to the Court of Arbitration for Sport if Thailand is banned from competing in the 2026 Asian Games.
On 27 May 2026, drama unfolded at the 2026 Sepak Takraw World Championship final in Malaysia between Thailand and Malaysia, during the match tied at 1-1.
In the third set, with Thailand leading 14-13, Singaporean referee Muhammad Radi awarded a point to Malaysia during a moment when Thailand struck the ball down, judging that Thailand had stepped on the line, tying the score at 14-14.
Thana Chaiprasit, president of the Sepak Takraw Association of Thailand, said, “We still insist we followed the proper procedures and did not walk out. We've seen this referee’s conduct against us in several matches. We accepted the medal and informed the federation. We chose not to continue playing. We intended that if the referee wanted Malaysia to win, we would just give them the championship.”
“I don't think this will affect the Asian Games because Malaysia previously walked out and we have not seen them punished. But if in this case they try to take action against us, it would be unfair and we would have to take it to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.”
