Somkiat Overtakes to Finish 13th in First Race Before Being Penalized Two Places at 2026 World Superbike Aragon

Thai rider Somkiat Chantra fiercely fought to earn points by overtaking to finish 13th in the first race before being penalized two places at the World Superbike Aragon round.

The 2026 World Superbike Championship round 6 held its first race on Saturday, 30 May, at MotorLand Aragon circuit in Spain.

In this race, "Kong" Somkiat Chantra, the prominent Thai rider with bike number 35 from the factory Honda HRC team, started from grid 18, while his British teammate Jake Dixon, number 96, began from grid 16.

The race spanned 18 laps. During the first half, Somkiat focused on maintaining speed and finding optimal grip, moving up to 17th position and sticking closely with the leading group.

The highlight came in the last four laps when Somkiat aggressively pressured rivals, managing to overtake four riders in succession and surged to a thrilling 13th place finish to the delight of fans.

Unfortunately, race officials judged that the Thai rider caused another competitor to lose momentum during an overtake, resulting in a penalty dropping him two places to 15th. Despite this, he earned 1 point from the first Aragon race. Meanwhile, teammate Dixon finished 16th.

Somkiat Chantra is scheduled to compete in the "Superpole Race" on Sunday, 31 May at 16:10 Thailand time, followed by Race 2 at 20:30.
