Kamphaeng Phet Ready to Welcome Cyclists Nationwide for Thailand Open Race, Stage 2

Kamphaeng Phet is ready to welcome cyclists from all over the country to compete in the second stage of the Thailand Open. Governor Chatip emphasizes support for tourism and economic stimulation in the region.

Chatip Rujanaseri, Governor of Kamphaeng Phet Province, warmly welcomes cyclists and their entourages nationwide to participate in the Thailand Open cycling competition, Stage 2, taking place on 13-14 June. He is confident the event will boost economic activity, generating income for local businesses such as hotels, restaurants, and souvenir shops. He also invites visitors to experience the charm of the World Heritage city and important tourist attractions in Kamphaeng Phet.

General Decha Hemkrasri, Deputy Chairman of the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC), President of the ASEAN Cycling Federation (ACF), and President of the Cycling Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage, revealed that the Cycling Association of Thailand, in collaboration with Kamphaeng Phet Province, the Kamphaeng Phet Provincial Administrative Organization, the Chakangrao Cycling Sports Association, and related agencies, will organize the Thailand Open mountain bike and road cycling races for the Royal Cup of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn for the year 2026, Stage 2, on 13-14 June. The race route will be within Mueang Kamphaeng Phet District.

General Decha stated that the Cycling Association of Thailand has held the Thailand Open mountain bike and road cycling races in Kamphaeng Phet for five consecutive years. The last two years were held at Khlong Lan National Park, but this year the competition returns to the city district following cyclists' requests and Governor Chatip Rujanaseri’s policy to distribute income across different areas. This also promotes tourism in Mueang Kamphaeng Phet, which boasts many historical sites like the Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park, designated a UNESCO World Heritage site, along with Wat Phra Borommathat Nakhon Chum, Wat Phra Kaew, and Wat Chang Rob.

General Decha added that the opening ceremony for the Thailand Open mountain bike race on Saturday, 13 June at 08:30 will be honored by Governor Chatip Rujanaseri as the presiding official. The opening ceremony for the Thailand Open road race on Sunday, 14 June at 07:30 will be presided over by Mr. Suntorn Rattanakorn, President of the Kamphaeng Phet Provincial Administrative Organization. Both events will be broadcast live via Facebook Live on the Thailand Cycling Association and TCA Channel pages, as well as on the TCA Channel YouTube channel throughout the two days.

General Decha further explained that for the competition's preparation, Kamphaeng Phet Province invited the technical team from the Cycling Association of Thailand, led by Navy Captain Thitiporn Noirak, Secretary-General of the Association, and Coach Tum Wisut Kasiyaphat, Vice Chairman of the Technical Committee, to meet with various agencies including police, health officials, the Chakangrao Cycling Sports Association, local administrative organizations, and volunteer rescue foundations on 19 May. Governor Chatip assigned Mr. Anucha Phatsan, Deputy Governor of Kamphaeng Phet, to chair the meeting to ensure all parties understand their duties and guarantee the safety of participating athletes.

Governor Chatip Rujanaseri of Kamphaeng Phet expressed gratitude on behalf of the people of Kamphaeng Phet to the Cycling Association of Thailand for honoring the province by hosting the Thailand Open mountain bike and road cycling races for the fifth consecutive year. The province has directed all relevant agencies to prepare thoroughly. The event benefits tourism promotion and significantly stimulates Kamphaeng Phet’s economy, increasing income for hotels, shops, restaurants, souvenir vendors, and OTOP product sellers.

The governor added that the race routes are both scenic and challenging. The province has planned the deployment of police officers, disaster prevention volunteers, and rescue volunteers at various high-risk points. A review meeting on operational plans will be held again on 12 June at 14:00 at Kamphaeng Phet Technical College. Additionally, athletes can purchase local souvenirs such as banana chips, traditional desserts like krayasart, dried bananas, cassava chips, grass jelly from Chakangrao, and local woven fabrics. He invited cyclists and their entourages to experience the beauty of historical sites and enjoy Kamphaeng Phet’s delicious cuisine, assuring that the local people are ready to warmly welcome cyclists from across the nation.

Meanwhile, Mr. Suntorn Rattanakorn, President of the Kamphaeng Phet Provincial Administrative Organization, stated that this cycling event is part of the province’s participation in national activities. The benefits include income for local residents through accommodations and restaurants, effectively stimulating the local economy. It also promotes tourism, making Kamphaeng Phet more vibrant. Additionally, a cycling health event under the "TCA GREEN CYCLING" project, focusing on environmental conservation and global warming reduction, will be held under the theme "Ride the Breeze, Explore the Old City, Kamphaeng Phet." Hundreds of cyclists from various clubs and the general public will ride a 30-kilometer route on Saturday, 13 June at 09:00. There will also be an anti-e-cigarette exhibition to educate the public and youth on the dangers of vaping.
