Two Rising Cyclists Shine as Champions at Thailand Open in Kamphaeng Phet

Two rising star cyclists delivered outstanding performances to claim championships at the Thailand Open cycling competition in Kamphaeng Phet.


The cycling community held a memorial ceremony to honor Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati, Princess Rajasarinisiri Patchra Maha Vajraratchathida, before the Thailand Open mountain biking and road cycling championship in Kamphaeng Phet. Suwanit Suriyakul Na Ayutthaya, Deputy Governor of Kamphaeng Phet, expressed his pleasure in welcoming cyclists from across the country to compete, and invited athletes and their supporters to explore key tourist sites in the province. Meanwhile, rising cyclists Watcharapong Sanghasorn and Suratsaya Wongphan delivered fiery performances to win youth category titles.


The Thailand Open mountain bike and road cycling championship for the national title, competing for the royal trophy of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, took place at the Na Mueang venue in Kamphaeng Phet on 13-14 June 2026. On 13 June, the mountain biking event opened with a ceremony chaired by Mr. Suwanit Suriyakul Na Ayutthaya, Deputy Governor of Kamphaeng Phet, alongside General Decha Hemakrasri, Vice President of the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC), President of the ASEAN Cycling Federation (ACF), and President of the Cycling Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage; Dr. Narong Yuphan, Vice President of the Kamphaeng Phet Provincial Administrative Organization; and other government officials.


Before the competition officially began, a memorial ceremony was held to honor Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati, who passed away on Thursday, 11 June 2026, at 19:48 at Chulalongkorn Hospital, Thai Red Cross Society. Thai citizens mourned deeply, and the Cycling Association of Thailand paid tribute by standing in silence for one minute to commemorate her graciousness.


In addition, a health cycling activity under the “TCA GREEN CYCLING” project, focusing on environmental protection and climate change mitigation, was held under the theme “Cycling to Enjoy the Breeze and Explore Old Kamphaeng Phet.” Sponsored by the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth), Kamphaeng Phet Provincial Administrative Organization, and the Kamphaeng Phet Cycling Sports Association, hundreds of cyclists from various clubs and the public joined a 30-kilometer ride. The event was broadcast live on Facebook Live via the Thailand Cycling Association and TCA Channel, as well as on the TCA Channel YouTube, attracting over 20,000 viewers in total.


Mr. Suwanit Suriyakul Na Ayutthaya, Deputy Governor of Kamphaeng Phet, expressed gratitude to the Cycling Association of Thailand for organizing the mountain bike and road cycling Thailand Open national championship, royal trophy contest, second round in Kamphaeng Phet. He affirmed the province's readiness to host the event, highlighting the beautiful natural race routes. He noted that besides welcoming cyclists nationwide, the province organized the “Cycling to Enjoy the Breeze and Explore Old Kamphaeng Phet” activity to promote exercise and good health. Concurrently, a campaign against e-cigarette smoking was held, making the event highly beneficial.


Mr. Suwanit added that beyond the competitions and health cycling activities, Kamphaeng Phet invites athletes to visit important local sites, including the Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is accessible by bike. Visitors can also explore natural attractions like Khlong Lan Waterfall. The city offers many delicious dining options for athletes and their entourages. The province is very pleased to host this prestigious event.


Suchat Chandam, a cyclist from the Tiger Shrine Chicken Club in Nakhon Sawan province, who participated in the “Cycling to Enjoy the Breeze and Explore Old Kamphaeng Phet” health ride, said the event atmosphere was excellent, especially the health cycling organized by the Kamphaeng Phet Cycling Sports Association, which attracted many participants. Traveling from Sala Chao Kai To subdistrict, Lat Yao district, Nakhon Sawan, he welcomed the opportunity for the public to exercise and maintain good health. He shared that he suffers from a heart wall defect and turned to cycling. After his latest checkup at Ramathibodi Hospital, doctors encouraged him to continue cycling due to his excellent health. He invited others to join cycling and hoped for similar events next year, noting Kamphaeng Phet as one of the best provinces for hosting cycling competitions in the north.


In the second round of the Thailand Open mountain biking event, notable results included the boys' 15-16 age group (54.3 km): 1st place Watcharapong Sanghasorn from the Fisherman Friend team, Wing 46, Phitsanulok, with a time of 1:28:05; 2nd Athikun Santa, Bangkok Sports School & Roojai team, 1:31:52; 3rd Jesdaporn Jaiyen, KCA Kamphaeng Phet Cycling Association, 1:31:52.


In the girls' under-18 category (54.3 km): 1st place Suratsaya Wongphan, Fisherman Friend team, Wat Dong Noi, Sattha Samut Songkhram School, 2:06:55; 2nd Sirapatsorn Srisai, Fisherman Friend team, Wat Dong Noi, Thawaranukul Samut Songkhram School, 2:06:55; 3rd Janyaporn Phosuwan, KCA Kamphaeng Phet Cycling Association, 2:06:58.


In the men's public category (54.3 km): 1st place Narongdet Saengchai, AminoVITAL - Summit Nich team, 1:20:45; 2nd Montri Theerathip, 1:20:45; 3rd Mr. Cone Duang Afey, HANG HANG CYCLING team, 1:20:52.


In the women's public category (54.3 km): 1st place Petchlada Mankong, Fisherman Friend team, Wing 46, Phitsanulok, 1:47:43; 2nd Jairung Thepracha, Bamboo Bicycle Club Ratchaburi/Bunny family club, 1:47:44. Full results are available on the website www.thaicycling.or.th.


The road cycling portion of the Thailand Open national championship second round is scheduled for Sunday, 14 June, with the opening ceremony at 07:30, chaired by Mr. Sunthorn Rattanakorn, President of the Kamphaeng Phet Provincial Administrative Organization, who will also start the race at 08:00. The route covers Na Mueang area and the Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park before returning to the finish line at the start point, totaling 76 km. The event will be broadcast live on Facebook Live via the Thailand Cycling Association and on the TCA Channel YouTube starting at 07:30.
