Somkiat Thanks Honda HRC for Experience in Winning Suzuka 8 Hours 2026

Somkiat Chantra, a well-known Thai rider, expressed gratitude to Honda HRC for the opportunity to join the team that won the Suzuka 8 Hours 2026.

Somkiat Chantra, a top Thai rider beloved by fans, publicly thanked Honda HRC for the chance to be part of the legendary Suzuka 8 Hours 2026 endurance race team. The team clinched their 5th consecutive title, with congratulations extended to Takumi Takahashi and Jonathan Rea for steering the team through challenging and unpredictable weather to victory at Suzuka Circuit, Japan, last Sunday. Somkiat said that although he did not compete, he gained invaluable experience and hopes for future opportunities.

The endurance motorcycle road racing world championship features an intense 8-hour speed contest followed closely by motorsport fans worldwide. This year marked the 47th edition of this iconic motorsport event, regarded as a proving ground for the strength of motorcycle manufacturers on two wheels. All major brands worldwide prioritize this race, sending their top riders from MotoGP and even the World Superbike Championship.

Honda HRC, as the defending champion, fielded the experienced Japanese rider Takumi Takahashi, familiar with the CBR1000RR-R number 30 bike, as the lead rider. Six-time World Superbike champion Jonathan Rea from Ireland joined the team this year to strengthen their lineup.

Meanwhile, Honda HRC also brought in Somkiat Chantra, a top Thai rider from the World Superbike Championship, joining the team after being called up just weeks prior. Somkiat impressed with his speed during dry track testing but lacked experience on Suzuka's wet and mixed-weather track. Consequently, Honda HRC adopted a cautious strategy for their championship pursuit. The team reported that Somkiat played a vital role throughout the weekend, contributing significantly to their success.

Starting from pole position, Honda HRC chose riders with experience handling tough weather conditions—Takahashi and Rea. Together, they secured the team's 5th consecutive victory after a grueling 8-hour race filled with numerous turning points, completing 188 laps and setting the record for Honda's 32nd win at the Suzuka 8 Hours.

After the team's successful weekend, Somkiat Chantra said, "I'm truly happy for Jonathan and Takumi. Today, we are a very happy team. This weekend gave me valuable experience and lessons. I thank Honda HRC for this opportunity and for allowing me to learn throughout the weekend. Even though I didn't race, I enjoyed every moment of being part of the team and hope to have another chance in the future."

Somkiat Chantra will next travel to the United Kingdom to join Honda HRC for the 8th round of the 2026 World Superbike Championship at Donington Park from 10–12 July. This circuit remains one where he has yet to compete officially.
