Watcharapong Sanghasorn and Kawisara Amkamnerd claimed the youth time trial championship and the Thailand title, receiving the royal trophy at the final round of the Thailand Cycling Championships held at Bhumibol Dam. Meanwhile, Wiphawee Dechabalas and Methasit Boonsaneh won the downhill national championship for the general category and received the 2026 Outstanding Athlete Award. Vipo Pewat, Deputy Governor of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), noted the event stimulated the economy and generated income for local businesses and communities around Bhumibol Dam. The live broadcast on Facebook Live and YouTube attracted over 20,000 views.
The 2026 Thailand Cycling Championships, featuring road races competing for the King Bhumibol Trophy and mountain bike races competing for the Royal Trophy, held their 5th and final round from 7-9 August at Bhumibol Dam, Sam Ngao District, Tak Province. The opening ceremony for the road time trial on 7 August at Sirichon Plaza was chaired by Vipo Pewat, Deputy Governor of EGAT, with attendees including Sunee Busapan, Deputy Governor of Tak Province; Prasit Upachit, Director of Bhumibol Dam; Navy Commander Thitiporn Noirak, Secretary General of the Cycling Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage; government officials; and agency heads.
After the opening ceremony, Vipo Pewat, Deputy Governor of EGAT, expressed gratitude on behalf of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand for the honor of co-hosting the final round of the Thailand Cycling Championships at Bhumibol Dam, a scenic location attracting many national and international athletes. He said the event effectively stimulated the economy as each athlete brings family, coaching staff, and followers. The closed-circuit race course at Bhumibol Dam ensured high safety, which is a key factor in event organization.
Vipo added that EGAT is pleased to support all sports competitions held on its premises. Beyond such events, communities around Bhumibol Dam have opportunities to sell products, food, and OTOP goods during the event, increasing local income. He thanked the Cycling Association of Thailand and related agencies for successfully organizing the competition.
The road time trial race was broadcast live on Facebook Live via Thailand Cycling Association and on YouTube via the TCA Channel, attracting over 20,000 views. Notable results included the women's general category (18 km): 1st place to Pityaporn Saetun, a national team cyclist from Fisherman Friend Chiang Mai, with a time of 34:29.286, winning the Thailand championship with 170 points and receiving the royal trophy; 2nd to Phettharin Somraj from the Ministry of Defense team at 34:36.315; and 3rd to Kamolrada Khaoplod from team KOM KOM at 35:28.277.
In the women's under-23 category (18 km), Pityaporn Saetun of Fisherman Friend Chiang Mai won first place with a time of 34:29.286, securing the Thailand championship with a perfect score of 180 points and the royal trophy. Second place went to Napatsawan Kaewtip of Fisherman Friend Chiang Mai with a time of 42:14.291.
In the men's general category (27 km), first place was awarded to Colonel Peerapol Chaochiangkhang, a national cyclist from the Air Force cycling team KOM KOM, with a time of 43:25.370. Second place went to Sergeant Thanakarn Chaiyasombat from the Ministry of Defense team at 43:33.745, and third to Police Corporal Peerapong Ladngern from Roojai Insurance at 43:42.400. The Thailand championship title was awarded to Police Corporal Peerapong Ladngern with 170 points and the royal trophy.
In the men's under-23 category (27 km), first place was won by Second Lieutenant Thanaphat Sakultae from Prime 19 team with a time of 45:38.615, second to Private Tinpat Muangdet from the Air Force KOM-KOM team at 45:39.350, and third to Nattawat Mangwong of the Air Force KOM KOM team at 48:34.079. The Thailand championship was awarded to Private Tinpat Muangdet with 170 points and the royal trophy.
In the women's youth category (9 km), first place went to Kawisara Amkamnerd of Fisherman Friend Chiang Mai with a time of 20:51.197, winning the Thailand championship with 176 points and the royal trophy. Second place was Siwaphon Phuttharam from Bangkok Sports School & Roojai team at 20:55.018, and third was Thanchanok Jinaphirom from the same team at 21:25.185.
In the men's youth category (18 km), Watcharapong Sanghasorn of Fisherman Friend, Wing 46 Phitsanulok, won first place with a time of 18:00.127, securing the Thailand championship with a perfect score of 180 points and the royal trophy. Second place went to Kunapas Anekphatthana from Lenso.cc team at 18:45.047.
Third place in the men's youth category was Thee Paoluengthong from Two Wheels Bike Service with a time of 18:50.806.
On the same day, the mountain bike downhill race was held at Bhumibol Dam. Notable results included the women's general category champion "Phet" Pettyawong Wiphawee Dechabalas, a national cyclist and 33rd SEA Games gold medalist from the Air Force cycling team KOM KOM, with a time of 3:51.026, winning the Thailand championship with a perfect score of 120 points and the royal trophy. Second place was Methinee Sankhanaporn from Madmonkey team at 3:52.234, and third was Nada Binmuhammad from Kasem Bundit University at 4:16.823.
In the men's general category, the champion was "Best" Asst. Sgt. Methasit Boonsaneh, a national cyclist and 33rd SEA Games gold medalist from Lomocycle Corenutrition Veetireco Navy team, with a time of 2:28.115, winning the Thailand championship with 120 points and the royal trophy. Second place was Private Bannawit Nakwong from the Navy team at 2:47.879, and third was Siwarin Puangnun from SORHABIKE x SINTHORN Phuket Technical College at 2:38.729.
The 2026 Outstanding Mountain Bike Downhill Athlete Awards, receiving the Preeda Julamondhol Honorary Trophy, went to female athlete Wiphawee Dechabalas of the Air Force Cycling Team, and male athlete Methasit Boonsaneh of Lomocycle Corenutrition Veetireco Navy team. The Outstanding Coaches Award, receiving the Seree Trairat Honorary Trophy, was given to coach Mettana Nilphet, mother and coach of Wiphawee Dechabalas, for the women's category, and Montree Boonsaneh, father and coach of Methasit Boonsaneh, for the men's category. The program for Saturday, 8 August, featured mountain bike cross-country races. The opening ceremony and athlete send-off at 08:30 was presided over by Sunee Busapan, Deputy Governor of Tak Province. Racing began at 09:00 within Bhumibol Dam on a 3.75-kilometer loop. In the afternoon at 15:00, the "Bike for Life-TCA GREEN CYCLING" health cycling event took place, a collaboration between the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth), the Cycling Association of Thailand, Tak Province, and Bhumibol Dam, also chaired by Deputy Governor Sunee Busapan. The 6-kilometer route inside Bhumibol Dam was broadcast live on Thailand Cycling Association's Facebook Live, the TCA Channel, and YouTube from 15:00 onward.
