After securing 8 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze medals at the 2026 Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, the Thai team’s medals were distributed as follows: in the junior category, Narumon Wonghajak won 2 gold and 1 silver in the women’s 49 kg class; Natcha Kaewnoi earned 2 gold and 1 bronze in the women’s 53 kg class; Yaowaret Permkaew took 2 gold and 1 silver in the women’s 61 kg class. In the youth category, Vichaya Pratumta achieved 2 gold and 1 bronze in the men’s 70 kg class.
Navy Captain Petchkasem Rataporn, Deputy Secretary and Registrar of the Amateur Weightlifting Association of Thailand and team manager, congratulated the medal-winning athletes. He noted that not everyone gets the chance to be on the national team, so those who have reached this level should cherish the opportunity. For some competing internationally for the first time, he urged athletes to remember the knowledge and experience gained here as lessons to apply in the future.
“This competition is just one test; the path to success is still long. Everyone should aim to qualify for the Olympic Games, following in the footsteps of predecessors who have won Olympic medals. Another important factor is discipline toward oneself and the team. Maintain the rules and lead yourself to the goals you have set,” Navy Captain Petchkasem said.
Additionally, the Thai national weightlifting team manager expressed gratitude to the coaches and staff who fully performed their duties, enabling the athletes to achieve strong results at the Asian level.
Meanwhile, the team officials and athletes are scheduled to arrive back at Suvarnabhumi Airport on the morning of 14 August 2026 at 06:40 GMT+7.
