The International Sepak Takraw Federation has sanctioned eight Thai sepak takraw players and coaching staff, imposing fines totaling 1.75 million baht due to a walkout incident in May 2026.
On 15 Aug 2026, the International Sepak Takraw Federation (ISTAF) announced penalties against five Thai national team players and three coaching staff members following a walkout during the final match of the ISTAF Sepaktakraw World Cup Kuala Lumpur 2026 held on 24 May.
The ISTAF disciplinary committee reviewed the case on 10 August before issuing a decision the next day, confirming that all eight individuals—players and coaches—were at fault. Three players—Phutawan Sopa, Wichan Temkot, and Chakkrit Thinbangbon—were each fined 6,000 US dollars. Two others, Sitthipong Kamchan and Chatupol Siriart, were fined 5,000 US dollars each, approximately 165,714 baht.
Meanwhile, coaching staff members Naruechit Kalchan, the head coach, and Sahachart Sakorncharoen, the assistant coach, were each fined 8,000 US dollars (about 265,143 baht). Team manager Uaychai Srisuwan received the highest fine of 10,000 US dollars (approximately 331,429 baht). The total fines amounted to 54,000 US dollars, or about 1,789,721 baht.
However, the suspension periods for all eight have now ended, allowing the five players to compete normally again unless further sanctions are imposed by other authorities. This enables Phutawan Sopa, Wichan Temkot, and Chakkrit Thinbangbon to return to the national team and aim to support Thailand's sepak takraw efforts at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.
