Bangkok unites all sectors to conclude the Bangkok Provincial Championship while advancing athlete development from local levels to the national team, inviting all Thais to unite in cheering for the Thai team at the 2026 Asian Games.
Bangkok collaborated with the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), the Olympic Committee of Thailand, and the National Sports Development Fund to hold the closing ceremony of the 2026 Bangkok Provincial Championship under the theme “United in Cheering Thai Athletes to the 2026 Asian Games” on 9 September 2026 at Ratchaphruek Club, Laksi District, Bangkok.
This event not only marked the conclusion of the provincial-level competition but also served as a platform showcasing the cooperation among all sectors in developing Thai sports—from youth and local levels to nurturing athletes for the national team—while sending encouragement to Thai athletes ahead of the 2026 Asian Games.
The event was attended by executives from government agencies, sports organizations, sports personnel, athletes, and distinguished guests, amidst a proud atmosphere following the successful Bangkok Provincial Championship, highlighting the importance of building a "foundation" to discover and develop new athletes.
Mr. Surasak Pancharoenworakul, Minister of Tourism and Sports, said this activity plays a key role in raising awareness about the significance of the Asian Games, a stage where athletes from across Asia showcase their potential and sportsmanship.
“In just a few days, our Thai athletes will compete. This event helps build morale, confidence, and pride so everyone is ready to perform at their best.”
The Ministry of Tourism and Sports continues to support athlete development, personnel, and budget through the SAT and the National Sports Development Fund, and congratulated the Thai women's volleyball team for their victory over China, which serves as a major inspiration for Thai sports.
At the same time, the public is invited to send their support to the Thai athletes to perform at their best and bring victories that will bring happiness to all Thais.
Associate Professor Dr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, said Bangkok places great importance on sports as a tool to improve citizens’ quality of life by continuously supporting Bangkok's sports associations, which have secured top gold medals at both the National Games and the Youth National Games, and have been recognized as outstanding provincial sports associations by the SAT.
However, Bangkok's goal is not only to develop elite athletes but also to ensure that people in all 50 districts have access to exercise opportunities.
“Sports belong to all people of Bangkok” to promote good health, reduce medical expenses, and create opportunities for Bangkok to discover new rising stars who will become key members of the national team in the future.
Assistant Professor Pimon Srivikorn, Chairperson of the Olympic Committee of Thailand, said preparing Thai athletes involves comprehensive focus on training, physical fitness, mental condition, sports science, and nutrition.
Regarding athlete management, the emphasis is on ensuring athletes “eat well, live well, and get enough rest,” so they can fully concentrate on competitions, with preparations including travel, accommodation, hydration, and medical care to ensure confidence on the field.
“We want every athlete to compete with the confidence that the entire Thai nation supports them behind the scenes.”
Dr. Kongsak Yodmani, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, said SAT acts as a central coordinator among sports associations, the Olympic Committee of Thailand, and government agencies to ensure smooth preparation and travel arrangements for athletes.
Concerning allowances and budgets, the focus is on proper, transparent, and accountable management to ensure funds reach sports associations and athletes quickly and efficiently.
Mr. Tanukiart Janchum, Manager of the National Sports Development Fund, stated that the fund is ready to boost morale by awarding prizes fairly, transparently, and promptly to those who succeed, to motivate new athletes to strive for national honor.
Mr. Thirachai Wuttitham, President of Bangkok Sports Association, said the association is ready to serve as a foundation for developing new athletes and promoting Bangkok athletes to join the Thai national team.
“The association is committed to being a key force in helping Bangkok athletes progress to the Thai national team to bring pride to Thailand at the Asian Games.”
Therefore, the closing of the Bangkok Provincial Championship is not only a conclusion of the competition but also a crucial step linking "local sports to the national team," transferring energy from Bangkok's sports fields to the Asian stage.
From now on, the Thai athletes will advance toward the mission of the 2026 Asian Games, supported by the spirit of the entire Thai nation behind them.
