Regrettably, Weerapol was edged out by Indonesia to claim the gold medal in the men's 75 kg weightlifting at the 2026 Asian Games.
On 26 Sep 2026 GMT+7, Thai athletes competed for weightlifting gold at the Nagoya City Trade and Industry Center in Japan during the fourth day of the 2026 Asian Games.
The men's 75 kg weightlifting final featured "Wave" Weerapol Wichuma, who holds the 2024 Olympic silver, 2023 and 2025 World Championship golds, 2022 Asian Games silver, and 2025 SEA Games gold on home soil.
Weerapol successfully completed all three snatch attempts, lifting 160 kg on his third try. In the clean and jerk, he lifted 205 kg, breaking the world record, finishing with a total of 365 kg.
However, Indonesia's young powerhouse Rahmat Erwin Abdullah matched the snatch at 160 kg, then lifted 206 kg in the clean and jerk to break the world record again and clinch the 2026 Asian Games gold with a total of 366 kg.

The Thai weightlifting team continued to secure Asian Games 2026 medals for the fourth consecutive day, following Surajana Khambao (bronze, women's 53 kg), Theerapong Silachai (bronze, men's 60 kg), and Suraswadi Yodsarn (silver, women's 57 kg).
