World No. 1 reveals reason for defeat to Orrawan Paranang at China Smash 2026 table tennis tournament.
Following the thrilling upset where "Tip" Orrawan Paranang, ranked 101st in the world and a member of Thailand's national table tennis team, defeated China's world No. 1 Sun Yingsha 3-1 at the China Smash 2026 in Beijing, China, Orrawan advanced to the last 16 while Sun was shockingly eliminated.
After the match, Sun Yingsha said, "Orrawan was well prepared and played a good match. It's normal for athletes to have ups and downs. Coming here right after the Asian Games, my body wasn't in great condition. I had a fever last night, so I couldn't play as well as I should today."
Additionally, Sun expressed hope to recover within the next two weeks and be ready for the upcoming WTT Champions Montpellier tournament in her best physical condition.
"There's nothing to worry about too much. I hope to return to good physical shape as soon as possible," she added.
As for Orrawan, she will face Japan's Honoka Hashimoto, ranked 14th in the world, in the round of 16 on Thursday, 8 October 2026, at 18:10 (Thailand time).
