Flooding Prompts Sports Authority to Decide on 2025 SEA Games Football After Severe Impact in Songkhla

Flooding has led the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) to make a decision regarding the "2025 SEA Games football" after severe impact in Songkhla.

On 25 November 2025 GMT+7, the latest updates on the 2025 SEA Games, hosted by Thailand, require close monitoring after severe flooding in the south, especially in Songkhla province, which is one of the host cities.

Songkhla is hosting 10 sports at the 33rd SEA Games, competing for a total of 109 gold medals. These sports include boxing, pankration, men's football, chess, judo, kabaddi, karate, wrestling, petanque, and wushu.

However, following the recent flooding situation, Dr. Kongsak Yodmanee, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), admitted that the SEA Games 2025 organizing committee is urgently considering relocating the men's football matches, which is one of the main sports events.

Songkhla is scheduled to host the men's football tournament of the 2025 SEA Games for Group B teams, which include Vietnam, Malaysia, and Laos, at Tinsulanon Stadium. The first match is set to start on 4 December 2025, just nine days away.

Although Tinsulanon Stadium has not been directly affected by flooding, the problem lies in transportation, as access routes are currently cut off. Therefore, the committee is considering moving the football matches, possibly to Rajamangala National Stadium or Thammasat University’s Rangsit campus. A decision may be finalized within this week.

Regarding Muay Thai, orders have been issued to move the competition venue from the main southern sports stadium (Prukangkaw) to the International Convention Center at Prince of Songkla University, near the hall used for wushu events, due to severe waterlogging problems.
