On 23 Dec 2025 GMT+7, insights from "Leesaw" Theeratep Winothai and "Camp" Sarawut Dechmitr on the "War Elephants," the Thai national football team today, were shared via Thairath Sport's "Clear Rim Sen" program, which aired last night on YouTube Thairath Sport.
Starting with "Leesaw" Theeratep Winothai, who said, "I've mentioned before that the senior Thai national team and the SEA Games team overlap. We want to win both the SEA Games and the ASEAN Championship, but we don't have the complete main players. There needs to be a solution. To be clear, if it were me, I'd say yes, we must move beyond ASEAN, but we should still aim to win ASEAN or at least plan clearly from the start about which squad to use, whether to pause the league, and if the selected players will be rested to prepare."
"The association must talk clearly with the clubs. If plans are made well from the start, I think it’s doable. But if discussions happen last minute, clubs don’t have time to prepare or have replacements ready for players called up, then those players have to play for both the national team and their clubs. I believe no club in the world does this. It comes down to management and advance planning. If we keep doing things the same way, the results will be the same."
Meanwhile, "Camp" Sarawut Dechmitr said, "Vietnam has prepared their team for a long time and still prioritizes this. Meanwhile, we’re more casual but want to win. In the end, everything is left to the coach. I think Coach Wang must be frustrated with players coming and going like a shopping mall. Then when they return to the Thai League, they have to be checked again for fitness. Training is very important, as is mutual understanding."
"I've followed the Thai national team closely and want to see Thai football reach its rightful level. I want to see quality personnel enter the football scene to provide many options. But right now, it's mostly talk and empty promises. I think at age 50 or 60, I want to see Thai football at the World Cup. I want to see that just like any other fan. Good planning plays a part in success, but there are many factors that have prevented us from reaching that point."
