American Olympic swimming legend decides to sell 3 Olympic gold medals, receiving 12 million baht.
On 8 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Ryan Lochte, legendary American national swimmer and winner of 6 gold, 3 silver, and 3 bronze Olympic medals, decided to sell 3 of his gold medals.
The medals Lochte sold include the 4×200 meter freestyle relay gold from 2008 sold for $183,000, the same event from 2016 sold for $122,000, and the 4×200 meter relay gold from 2004 sold for $80,000. The total proceeds amounted to $385,000, equivalent to 12.1 million baht.
The reason 41-year-old Lochte chose to sell the medals was to address personal issues. He is currently facing a divorce after seven years of marriage and admitted he was a poor husband who hardly knew his wife.
He has also endured shocking events, including fabricating a robbery story in 2016, being critically injured in a car accident in 2022, and suffering from depression.
