"Uncle Newin" expressed condolences after Pattani FC fans, who planned to travel by train to watch an away game in Buriram, never arrived due to a high-speed rail construction crane falling onto the train.
Newin Chidchob, chairman of Buriram United Football Club, issued a heartfelt statement expressing deep sympathy to Pattani FC and its fans following the accident where a crane from the high-speed rail project fell onto a train in Nakhon Ratchasima province, causing numerous injuries and fatalities.
Among those affected were six Pattani FC fans who died in the incident while intending to travel by train from Pattani to watch the 2025/26 Chang FA Cup Round of 16 match between Pattani FC and Buriram United, bringing great sorrow to the victims' families and the Thai football community.
Newin Chidchob stated that the accident resulted from negligence and irresponsible actions by the construction contractor, who violated safety regulations during a time when trains were still running through the area.
He called on the State Railway of Thailand to take responsibility for the incident by providing appropriate and fair compensation to the families of the deceased and all injured parties, as the accident occurred while passengers were using the railway service.
Additionally, to support Pattani FC fans, who have long maintained a good partnership with Buriram United, Newin announced that as club chairman, he will lead Buriram United to visit Pattani FC during the 2026–2027 preseason to show gratitude and respect to all Pattani FC fans—both those who arrived and those who could not make the journey this time.
"Condolences to Pattani FC fans.
I express my sympathies to Pattani FC and the fans, some of whom did not reach Buriram due to a high-speed rail construction crane falling onto a train in Nakhon Ratchasima province, causing numerous injuries and deaths.
I was just informed that among those affected were six Pattani FC fans—one confirmed dead, and five still unaccounted for.
This accident was caused by negligence and lack of responsibility by the construction company, which violated work regulations while trains were passing during construction.
Buriram United Football Club extends condolences to Pattani FC fans involved in this tragedy and urges the State Railway of Thailand to provide proper compensation to the families of the deceased and all injured, as this occurred while passengers were using railway services, which falls under the responsibility of the State Railway.
To support the fans of Pattani FC, a longstanding partner club of Buriram United,
as chairman of Buriram United, I will lead the team to visit Pattani FC during the 2026-2027 preseason to thank the Pattani FC fans who traveled to Buriram, both those who arrived and those who could not today.
I offer my deepest condolences and tribute to the deceased.
