Monthong Wittaya joined in filming a clip on 8 February expressing support for the constitutional amendment, with netizen comments divided into two opposing sides.
On 18 January 2026, Chaturon Chaisang, chairman of the campaign committee for the referendum and the people's constitution of the Pheu Thai Party, posted a clip featuring players and coaches from the Monthong Wittaya team from Chachoengsao province joining the campaign to vote 'Yes' on the constitutional amendment on 8 February. He wrote, "Yesterday I spoke in the Bang Nam Priao area and stopped by to visit Professor Sakon and the Monthong team. The professor said the constitution is not the concern of any single party but a matter for the whole country to work together on. #8FebVoteYes".
The clip has been viewed over 200,000 times, received more than 19,000 likes, and shared over 2,200 times on the Facebook page Chaturon Chaisang.
The clip's comments, exceeding 1,100, are mainly divided into two groups: those supporting the constitutional amendment and those opposing it.
Some comments questioned the appropriateness of involving sports in political matters or constitutional amendments.
However, Chaturon Chaisang deleted the clip after the controversy and provided an explanation.
"Regarding the video clip of the coach and players of the Monthong team expressing opinions about the referendum, which sparked criticism that may affect those appearing in the clip, I would like to clarify to ensure mutual understanding."
"That afternoon, my friends and I conducted a 'Yes' campaign in Chachoengsao city, wearing shirts and holding flags and signs. Later, I had to give a speech in Bang Nam Priao district. On the way, knowing it was near the Monthong team's practice time, I stopped by to encourage them. I also discussed with Professor Sakon the benefits the team has brought to sports, the school, and Chachoengsao province."
"Professor Sakon also shared ideas about sports schools, which I took into consideration. We talked about the referendum, and he agreed with us that the constitution is an important matter for the country. He even invited me to educate parents, as very few people know about the referendum on election day."
"The expressions by Professor Sakon and the players regarding the referendum and the constitution are normal exercises of freedom of expression that anyone can do. This does not indicate political bias or support for any political party in the election."
"The video might lead to criticism of Professor Sakon and the players, and I believe some criticism has gone beyond the facts. Nonetheless, if this has made the school administrators, players, or Professor Sakon uncomfortable, I apologize and will remove all clips from every platform where I posted them."
"That said, I emphasize that public figures, celebrities, or influencers can freely express opinions regarding the referendum without legal repercussions. This is not harmful and is beneficial to the country."
