The Election Commission warns the public not to wear football jerseys with numbers to the election, as it could lead to calls for clarification if deemed as electoral influence. It is advised to avoid this if possible.
On 5 Feb 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Samphan Saengkamloet, Director of the Bangkok Election Commission Office, gave an interview on the 'Open News Desk' program on PPTV HD Channel 36. He emphasized to citizens planning to vote on 8 February the importance of their attire, especially cautioning against wearing football shirts with numbers on the back.
During the program, Mr. Samphan Saengkamloet stated, “I want to emphasize to voters to avoid wearing shirts with numbers, especially football jerseys, as this could be interpreted as electioneering or campaigning for candidates whose numbers match those on the jerseys. We ask everyone to be cautious. We are less concerned about shirt colors.”
Mr. Samphan added, “Although the offense depends on intent, if someone wears such a shirt and is photographed, leading to a complaint, that person may be summoned to explain the reason for wearing it and their intentions. If unrelated to campaigning, they must clarify to demonstrate their innocence.”
