On 12 February 2026, developments occurred regarding an armed assailant who entered Patong Prathan Kirivat School in Patong Subdistrict, Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province. The attacker shot people inside the school, injuring them, and took students hostage. Authorities later regained control of the situation and arrested the suspect, identified as a local 17-year-old youth with a history of psychiatric treatment due to substance abuse, who was discharged from the hospital in December 2025.
Three people were injured: 1. Mrs. Sasiphat Sinsomros, director of Patong Prathan Kirivat School, was shot in the left chest. She was taken to Hat Yai Hospital where doctors performed surgery and closely monitored her condition. 2. A 15-year-old female student was shot in the left waist and was taken to Songklanagarind Hospital; her condition was initially stable. 3. A female student was injured from jumping out of a building to escape and was also admitted to Songklanagarind Hospital for medical care.
Despite doctors' best efforts to save her, Mrs. Sasiphat Sinsomros, the school director, peacefully passed away. Netizens expressed deep condolences to her family on her passing.
Recently, the Facebook page Madam Pang - Nuannaphan Lam-sam posted a message expressing condolences on the passing of Director Sasiphat as well.
"We express our deepest condolences on the passing of Teacher Sasiphat, director of Tapong Prathan Kirivat School, who was shot while protecting children during yesterday’s shooting incident."
