Sisaket Seriously Bids to Host Kings Cup 2026—Responds Clearly to Concerns Over Thai-Cambodian Border Issues

MP Siripong Angkasungkij confirmed that Sisaket province has officially submitted a bid to host the 52nd King's Cup, planning to use Sisaket Provincial Central Stadium as the main venue and is preparing plans to support every aspect.

On 24 February 2026, MP Siripong Angkasungkij, prospective member of the House of Representatives for Sisaket province from the Bhumjaithai Party and president of the Sisaket Provincial Sports Association, confirmed to Thairath Sport that they have submitted a formal letter to the Football Association of Thailand to bid for hosting the 52nd King's Cup in 2026.

The main venue will be the Sisaket Provincial Central Stadium (Island on Water), which holds approximately 12,000 spectators. There are plans to renovate the playing surface, install new seats, and upgrade the facilities inside the stadium to be more modern. Additionally, improvements are being made to the grass surfaces of Srinakorn Lamduan Stadium and the Sisaket Rajabhat University Central Stadium, both prepared as training grounds.

Regarding hotel accommodations, they confirmed that sufficient arrangements meet the Association's requirements, as Sisaket has previously hosted friendly matches where the Thai national team defeated Turkmenistan 1-0, and has experience organizing various sports events multiple times.

"We have hosted a FIFA Day match before, when Turkmenistan stayed here. The accommodations were satisfactory, with elevators, breakfast services, and room service meeting 4- to 5-star standards without issues. For fans coming from other provinces, Sisaket has enough rooms, at least 5,000, to accommodate them. We have hosted the National Games twice and the National Youth Games twice, along with many tournaments. We hope that hosting a big tournament like this will help stimulate the local economy," MP Tong said.

For transportation, Ubon Ratchathani International Airport will serve as the main airport for this event. The distance from the airport to the stadium is about 60 kilometers, with travel time under one hour, potentially faster with escort vehicles.

Concerns about border issues between Thailand and Cambodia were firmly denied. They consulted thoroughly with local security agencies. During times of conflict and evacuations, the province successfully organized the Thailand World Music Championship, attracting many international participants, which proceeded smoothly.

"We are confident about safety, having confirmed multiple times with security authorities. Hosting events like this benefits the border province's economy, as clashes significantly impact the local economy. It’s not accurate to say that if Thailand and Cambodia clash, tourists won’t come to Thailand at all; it depends on the specific area. In our area, we are confident it is safe," he added.

However, Sisaket is not the only province submitting a bid to host the 52nd King's Cup. Nakhon Ratchasima province has also submitted a proposal, along with several other interested provinces. The final decision on the 52nd King's Cup host will be officially announced by the Football Association of Thailand in due course.
