Former Thailand women's national team goalkeeper Waraporn Boonsing revealed a deeply painful experience after some fans sent her abusive messages through social media, criticizing her past performances despite her having retired from the national team.
In a post on her personal Facebook page, she shared images of the continuous messages she received, which contained harsh criticism questioning her skills, suitability to play, and sarcastic remarks about the national team's performance on the world stage. Some even used inappropriate insulting language.
Nevertheless, Waraporn demonstrated mental resilience, affirming that she has always faced criticism and learned to overcome it. She also sent encouragement to those experiencing similar situations to stand firm and perform their roles to the best of their abilities.
This incident once again reflects the issue of cyberbullying in sports, where many athletes bear pressure from the online world, especially when their team's performance falls short of fans' expectations.
Despite the negative remarks, a considerable number of fans expressed support, showed positivity, and emphasized that everyone should respect athletes as fellow human beings.
