
Thailand's U17 national team lost 0-2 to Saudi Arabia U17 in their second match of the 2026 AFC U17 Championship, marking their second consecutive defeat and confirming their elimination from the tournament.
On 10 May 2026 at King Abdullah Sports City Hall Stadium (Legends) in Saudi Arabia, the 2026 AFC U17 Championship group stage matchday two took place. Thailand's U17 team faced Saudi Arabia's U17 team in Group A.
In the first match, Thailand lost 0-2 to Tajikistan while Saudi Arabia defeated Myanmar 4-0. For this game, head coach Marco Gockel made only two changes to the starting lineup from the previous match, fielding Paphanthir Sertsi as center-back alongside captain Natthakorn Raksa. Up front, Pakorn Suthiprapa started alongside Phanuwich Jeyakorn, Pornmeth Laongdee, and Phonpitak Rungrueng.
Just four minutes into the game, Saudi Arabia scored the opening goal from a corner kick. Ammar Maimani delivered the ball into the penalty area, where Marwan Al-Yami headed it in at the near post to make it 1-0.
At the 14th minute, Thailand appeared to have scored an equalizer when Phonpitak Rungrueng headed the ball from a corner into the net, but the referee ruled it a foul beforehand, so the goal was disallowed.
At the 38th minute, Thailand had another chance to equalize. Phanuwich Jeyakorn broke through and passed to Phonpitak Rungrueng, who shot with his right foot inside the penalty area, but the home goalkeeper saved it. The first half ended with Thailand trailing Saudi Arabia 0-1.
In the second half at the 67th minute, Thailand had a chance to equalize when Pornmeth Laongdee carried the ball forward and took a left-footed shot from just outside the penalty area, but the ball went over the crossbar.
At the 87th minute, Thailand threatened again. Substitute Pitchaya Chaivorakul played a through ball to Pornmeth Laongdee, who entered the penalty area and shot narrowly wide of the post.
In stoppage time at 90+2 minutes, Saudi Arabia extended their lead to 2-0 with a goal by Hassan Al-Ogurush. The match ended with Thailand U17 losing 0-2 to Saudi Arabia U17, leaving Thailand with zero points after two matches and eliminated from the tournament.
