Hudson Explains Why Thailand National Team Played Deep Defense for Long Period in 0-0 Draw with China

Anthony Hudson, coach of the Thailand national team, gave an interview after returning to Thailand upon completing the June FIFA Day two-match duty.

On 10 June 2026 GMT+7, Anthony Hudson spoke after arriving in Thailand, having finished the FIFA Day friendly matches, drawing 2-2 with Kuwait and 0-0 with China.

Anthony Hudson addressed the issue of limited playing opportunities for Erawan Garnier and Kakhana Kamyok during this FIFA Day period.

"When players join the camp, we assess all aspects, including physical condition and playing skills. But most importantly, we evaluate the performance during this June FIFA Day. If we want to achieve something special in the 2027 Asian Cup and World Cup qualifiers, we must ensure the June friendlies are stable. Previously, results were poor because players had just finished their league seasons."

"Looking at the quality of Kuwait and China, they are superior physically, especially China, who fielded their best players. We wanted to achieve good results, so we had to adjust our playing system. We didn't intend to play deep defense for such a long time, but given the physical condition, it was difficult to play otherwise. This meant we had to select certain players. However, Erawan and Kakhana still have a bright future with the Thailand national team and will have more opportunities in the upcoming ASEAN Cup."
